United Want To Match And Better City's Youth / CFA Academy

Its very easy to see both sides of the argument here, its bordering on shameful that players like Maffeo and Barker have not 10 seconds of 1st team action between them but imo thats all down to Pellers. Anyone who remembers Scott Sinclair coming on in the 88th minute instead of Thierry Ambrose when we were 3-0 up and it was clear SS was gone in a fortnight anyway must see that MP does not give 2 shits about our youth(im no pellegrini hater either). but some posters on here act like the CFA has been open a decade instead of a year. It will bare fruit in the next 2/3 years of that i have no doubt and it will be the freshest, ripest fruit about. One only has to see the occaisional game and read Twosips blog like i do to know that our U18s and below are stocked with some of the best prospects in the country if not europe. Our undoubted pursuit of a certain Catalonian will be with an eye towards the CFA as much as the first team, its just a perk of the man. Those who say that the rags have missed the boat and the days of having the family man turn up with a sign photo and a chance of getting you're eldest daughter pregnant are long gone are right too. They may be able to say "look at McNair or Borthwick-Jasckson" but we can say look at Kelechi or better yet look at Denayer, some see him as someone City have done wrong by but to a parent we can say "we feel he's not quite ready but hes already won trophies, awards and accolades in Scotland and now hes playing CL in one of the best surpported clubs in europe before returning next season" and thats the thing, while we may have at this point not given as much game time as we could or should The opportunites open to kids who choose us on the field and off are 2nd to none. I think a parent meeting representatives of both clubs would clearly see this, infact, they have been for the past few years. So i'd say to posters like NK that you have a patently valid point, we all see it but just be a little patient. It will happen, of that theres no doubt and it may be sooner than you think as it wouldn't surprise me if Pep gives Brahim 10 mins in august.

And have City been proven wrong regarding any of those who have left? Devante Cole aside of course.

Perhaps, just perhaps, the people in charge actually know what they're doing.

It's easy to be 'proven right' for every kid that gets pushed around from one club to another and doesn't 'make it'.

And again you are talking about peopke at 'the club'. I gather from this that Vieira, Davies Wilcox etc have told you personally that they don't think any of these kids could have made it or ciuld play a part in the first team squad now ?

They are giving opportunitys to kids who are nowhere near good enough.
After 5 games they disappear, never to be seen again
They dont want to play these kids, they are being forced to, by the lack of depth in their squad
You mean like we should be doing with our better kids when we have a bunch of injuries rather than knackering out our senior players until they can't actually run enough to play in the system the manager wants them to play ?

EXACTLY.

Absolutely.
Tbf we don't know that for sure, but I suspect you are right.
Perhaps the reason for both managers operating that way is they were instructed to win trophies, nothing but trophies until the club is established as world famous.
Hopefully the next phase is to develop and bring through the kids and discover the next Messi.
Peter no longer owns the club.
Agreed.Altho great points made by NK and others, the priorities were announced clearly..trophies....,Manuel wants to keep his well paid job and his pride, why would he want to fuck about with future planning etc when the media buzz is he is a dead man walking, and the BM threads pelle or pep are added to by the minute. He is living month to month, not decade to decade like fergie.
Grossly unfair to blame Manuel for not bringing on the youngsters when he doesn,t know if he will even be in charge in the new year.He is sticking to what he has been told is important.
NK views are very well laid out,his posts always give me a good insight into a part of City i often miss, but the blame for not blooding young players from the academy must lie at the door of those who shape, and publicly announce the clubs targets/main aims,....that is not Manuel.

Clearly not installing a time machine in the new academy was a terrible oversight by the club. The lack of youth players making the first team from our new set-up only highlights this.

Yeah because a the ones we had 2 years ago before it opened, like Denayer Barker Angelino Boadu Lopes Adarabayoyo Humphries Byrne Celina, Ntcham, Fofana, Maffeo Gunn Lawler & all the many others including most of the U16s are all fucking shit & will be soley reliant on our new training ground & stadium if they are to have any chance. Otherwise they needen't have bothered even trying to be footballers. Where would Diego Maradona or Aguero be without our new academy ? We have just invented football really, last year.

His squad would be stronger now if he had used some of the kids. Therefore he would be more likely to win trophies.

I think I get that point, though its intrinsically flawed. I actually think he makes life harder for himself and gives himself LESS chance of winning stuff but not using these kids to 'do a job'...instead he plays Sagna EVERY game when Zaba is out, practically inviting an injury/drop in form. Resting Sagna for 30 mins to keep him fresh for the critically important games here and there when we're winning, with the EDS's best player season a prime candidate, Maffeo, means Sagna is less likely to drop out of form (and he alrady has as we've noticed) or get injured, which he probs will at this rate like the rest of his teammates. Playing your best players every game means they get tired, they get injured and they drop out of form, which means we're less likely to win things. He should be cleverly wrapping our best players in cotton wool whenever we can by using the kids to rest them for half hour here and there.

Some City fans are bafflingly blind to these things... 'if they're good enough they'll get a chance' is one of the most short-sighted and naive things i've read in ages, and its said repeatedly.
