Amounts to pretty much the same thing but I think the “beyond reasonable doubt” thing was replaced with “satisfied that you are sure” a few years ago.

Maybe in Britain but not here.
In Ireland it is beyond reasonable doubt.

I'm not a fan of his since Cream but I think he is an honourable and generous bloke.

I don't see how you can keep kicking someone for what they said whilst an alcoholic in 1976.

Wasn’t this “honourable bloke” also shagging his best friends wife? Although if he was pissed at the time then it probably doesn’t count.

The judge directs them on the law.
She/he actually tells them what ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ means and gives them examples.

The burden of proof is quite high in the circuit and central courts.
They spend a lot of time in their closing speeches and the judges charges, going through it.

The standard of certainty is a lot less demanding in the civil courts.

Adam Johnson is not a nonce. A wrong ‘un and a horrible ****, but not a nonce. As in a paedo.

To say so, fails to distinguish between different sexual offences against children. The law should always distinguish where it is just and possible to do so.

He was clearly a horrible ****, and groomed her, and deserved to be heavily punished (as he absolutely was) but to describe him as a paedophile is preposterous.

He fingered a fifteen year old. How can that ever be on the same page as the rape of an infant?

If it’s legal at 16, and illegal at 15, then the law remains absolute, but common sense must enter into it. In order to distinguish such behaviour from other, more inhuman offending.
