This is just plain cocky bullsh*t. Upson is currently in the England 23 man squad along with Camel gob, JT, Lescott, Johnson, Bridge and Cashley. Capello is nobodies fool and would not select him with these top players unless he was up to the job.
Being considered as that kind of calibre of player makes him easily enough for our squad. Pull your head of off your *ss and please remember for all our new signings we haven't actually won anything yet...

and interestingly, Capello prefers to turn to Upson over Lescott when Ferdibland isn't fit, yet people are arguing that they would sign Lescott but not Upson.....bizarre!!!!

I think the fact he can also cover LB and chips in with a number of goals from the dead ball(both areas we really need a boost in).

Upson could quite easily also cover left-back in an emergency (as he has done for previous clubs and England) and chips in with the odd goal, though these are not what I mean....more that some people say Lescott is good eough to improve our squad, yet Upson,who is the preffered choice for the national team ahead of Lescott, is no better than what we already have in the eyes of those same people....the facts just don't stack up!

JT- tried, failed to sign
Camel Gob- rag
Lescott- tried, unlikely to sign

Agree 100%. I think some fellow Blue's need to remember we aint done anything yet. As things stand we are still an expensive failure waiting to happen. Until then, keep it humble and wait until we've achieved something to begin gloating. This isn't a negative 'we're all doomed' post, just one of caution.

As for Upson - good player, West Ham fans love him and Capello likes him. Can't be that bad. He's the kind of player that can help us get in to the top 3/4 and then we can attract the real top players.

i think people get put off by the age thing, i mean upson has never been known as a defender who cocks up or anything, so its gotta be age, i dont see 30 as a problem at all as long as were weren't held to ransome on his fee, carvalho is a year older, rio is 6 months older, granted there better players but my point being that neither of them look like there on there last legs, upson is a 7/8 out of 10 player week in week out, goes about his business quietly and effectively, surely thats what we need!
