Toure arrived the year before Upson left. But Upson spent a lot of time on loan back then, and wasn't really part of the senior squad so I doubt they'd played a whole lot together.

difference being upson gets picked in every international squad not just 1 offs like the 1's you've mentioned! west ham fans who have seen him week in week out regard him as there defensive rock, who is also the organiser of the back 4, he's quick he's dominant in the air. ok he's 30, that means we'll get 3 maybe 4 years out of him, lescott and him are the same in ability imo, upson is older hence the cheaper price tag!! this signing isn't about ambition its about trying to shore up our wobbly defence with a proven experienced top professional! oh and arsenal and liverpool have enquired about him in the last 6-12 months.moomba said:riley347 said:any international welcome in my book.......they don,t get there without being decent.......so who are you suggesting.......can,t wait for this..........

spot on. Upson is not flash in anything he does, he keeps it simple and effective,if Wenger can admit he may have made a mistake selling him then thats a ringing endorsement. I would rather have Lescott purely on age, but I would not be upset at getting Upson as we would be getting an experienced centre back that is naturally left-footed and will bring balance to the back 4, and is not prone to the type of errors of judgement that Dunnie has become prone to in the last couple of years. A back 4 of Bridge/Upson/Toure/Richards or Zab would be a decent foundation for the flair players to do their stuff. then, if we manage to secure a top 4 spot then next season we can look to bring in the likes of Alves/Mexes etc that will provide Euro experience and be the ball playing cnetre back to take us to the next level.

This is just plain cocky bullsh*t. Upson is currently in the England 23 man squad along with Camel gob, JT, Lescott, Johnson, Bridge and Cashley. Capello is nobodies fool and would not select him with these top players unless he was up to the job.
Being considered as that kind of calibre of player makes him easily enough for our squad. Pull your head of off your *ss and please remember for all our new signings we haven't actually won anything yet...
