Can people give it a rest with this "we've not won anything" bullshit. We all know our history whether we rate someone as a good signing or not.

And if I don't think someone is a good signing whether we've won fuck all or every trophy that exists. Or is it only rags and Chelsea that are qualified to have an opinion on signings this season?

Upson could quite easily also cover left-back in an emergency (as he has done for previous clubs and England) and chips in with the odd goal, though these are not what I mean....more that some people say Lescott is good eough to improve our squad, yet Upson,who is the preffered choice for the national team ahead of Lescott, is no better than what we already have in the eyes of those same people....the facts just don't stack up!

i think people get put off by the age thing, i mean upson has never been known as a defender who cocks up or anything, so its gotta be age, i dont see 30 as a problem at all as long as were weren't held to ransome on his fee, carvalho is a year older, rio is 6 months older, granted there better players but my point being that neither of them look like there on there last legs, upson is a 7/8 out of 10 player week in week out, goes about his business quietly and effectively, surely thats what we need!

good comments....and to add to that most people would agree that the position of centre-back is one that players can still perform effectively in up to the age of 34-36 (depending on injury history and how fit they keep themselves) just look at Maldini,Baresi,Blanc,Adams....all players who played at the top until well into their 30's and were considered amongst the best in the world in their position for most of that time.

Not as simple as just buying who you think are the best defenders. The players have to be available. Upson maybe available because West ham are in financial difficulties according to some reports. Follow your logic and we might as well go back for Terry

i dont think we should buy old player but if we do we should buy quality not averagelike upton , that`s why i said van buyten and not upton. i also thought terry was wildly over the top, price wise, for a player with a glass back especially.
