We had this discussion earlier and most agreed that Upson seems higher up in the England pecking order than Lescott, in fact he seems to Capello's solid third choice in that position.

It's not the case of having an opinion on who is a good signing( to which we are all entitled). It's a case of being realistic about who we can sign. I am guessing we would all like Vidic & Terry as our centre halves - but we aint going to get them. Upson and/or Lescott are the kind of player that can help us get in to a position where the very top players will want to join us.

It is all about having an opinion on who is a good signing. And as you don't seem to have read my thoughts on alternatives it's a bit rich for you to talk about realism.

exactly, I think this is being said on the back of 6 appearances for capello. I have to say i think the england managers job is a farce i think pearce could do just as good a job, i think an english coach not on ridiculous money should do the job.

England won't get past the quarters at the world cup 2010. If lescott plays tho, maybe...

surely comparing Upson to Lescott (Everton player) is not quite right, we should be comparing Upson to our CB's already at the club and and weighing up if he improves on them positions?

Imo he would be an improvement on TBH and Dunne, he's a left footer which gives us balance he's experienced and would do a job for us in the short term.
