Upton Park memories

League Cup tie in late '84 was my only visit there as a City fan. We won as I recall, I remember Power coming over to the fans.

I went to a game against Newcastle in early '85 when I was visiting London for a few days I saw their hooligans trying to smash into the Newcastle escort after the game, it was beyond belief there must have been a thousand of these ICF and yet the media made no mention of it, I guess t was like that every home game near enough.

Interesting to read comments. We have always respected City fans. Proper fans unlike red scumbags. We used to regularly give them a good kicking at home grounds in 70's especially. Cockney reds, I've shit 'em! There were a few tear ups with us and City fans but posts that mention our response to your relegation sums up the bond we share with City fans. Was at Etihad when beaten 6-1 and remember us singing throughout especially amusing to City fans was our chant "we lose every week, your nothing special..." Further respect when we stayed and applauded after you beat us to win premiership. And last season, when we held on for win City fans applauded our support. After the game some City fans were invited back to one of our clubs which is strictly for home fans and can't recall this happening with other away support. So we are looking forward to welcoming you to the Boleyn Ground for last time tomorrow. There will be usual banter of course. After losing tomorrow hope you go on to win premiership.
West Ham fan.

In 70's and 80's Boleyn Ground was intimidating place for all away support. At the same time our away firms always knew that we'd be in for a battle at Maine Road. Not present but anecdotally friends recalled getting battered when trying to infiltrate Kippax one year. Looking forward to welcoming fans from Manchester tomorrow who have 'Mancunian accents' Enjoy last visit to Boleyn Ground.
West Ham fan.

'Player of the season Scott Parker' trying to get close to a Yaya run looking like a Thompson's Gazelle trying to stop an Elephant as City thrashed them.

Damarcus' scoring with ten to go from nothing and us winning two aways in a row 1-0, and without Barton, after Samaras cleared off the line in both Xmas aways at 0-0.

First game was 81-82 season, night match, We drove down and decided to park up near Brent Cross / somewhere in north London and then get the tube in rather than risk the traffic.
I wore my City scarf that had the maroon stripe on it so looked like a West Ham / Villa scarf..... only problem was Arsenal were at home and the tube was rammed until after the train reached Highbury!
Then this women got on..... sat opposite us on the tube and started talking about the previous game and asked me what I thought about Paul Goddard's goal against QPR..... I just kept looking at her thinking of what to say and how to say it in a cockney accent.... she was fucking loud and demanded answers! Cant recall what I said but it was short and brief and not very loud.....

Standing in the queue to get in the away end and all of a sudden the black City fans were targetted and smacked to fuck..... we get inside and I think ''wow plenty of Blues here''. We go a goal down and then get a penalty that Trevor Francis puts away.... I cheer and then note about three quarters of the away end are not cheering but are Hammers fans and then it all kicks off....

Another game was the year after when Alex Williams was in net. He played absolutely out of this world..... and was getting sieg heil'd like fuck from the hammers fans to our right.
At 0-0 Alex saved a penalty and shut the fuckers up. We lost 4-0 or 4-1 and both Bond and Hartford were sent off..... Williams was amazing and kept the score down.... despite the constant shit he was getting. At the end of the game as he walked to the Main Stand to go down the tunnel, he got an amazing standing ovation from the fans in that stand.

Fond memories too of the League Cup game when we were in Divvy 2. Kinsey scored! The walk home from the supporters coach at 2am in the morning from the Post House to Sale didn't seem too bad that morning (and in work for 8.30am!)

I have a great respect for West Ham United FC and kind of regard them as the Manchester City FC of that London. They have properly authentic down to earth fans, loyal and devout, salt of the earth on the whole. They have shared some great players like Marc-Vivien Foé, Ian Bishop (footballer), Steve Lomas, David James, Malcolm Allison, John Bond Paulo Wanchope, Eyal Berkovic, Carlos Tévez, Trevor Morley and Clive Allen along the way, to name but a few.

In April 2013, there was the ‪#‎RememberFoeOn23‬ applause by all to remember our fantastic servant Marc-Vivien Foe.

9 May 1987 saw their fans serenade our fans as we dropped down a league. Pure football family love.

The blue moon has risen of late, but the bubbles also seem to be on the rise. I won't say "come on you Irons" but i will say, sit at the top table and battle in pride alongside us, you're always welcome in Manchester and you always make us welcome down your way at Upton Park Stadium, West Ham United Fc/West Ham Utd Football Ground/Boleyn Ground. This is our last visit to the Boelyn and West Ham stole the last possible win at Maine Road between us,. Here's to a good game today. The Premier League is blessed to have West Ham United FC on the rise.

Manchester City-Fantastic club with real fans. Look forward to the game on Saturday at Upton Park. Spent a good 4 years up in Manchester mid 90's, city supporters quality then too. Hope you win the league.
West Ham fan
I have loads of time for the Irons ... except for days like today.
