DeSantis is boxed in. He's won "biggly" in Florida because he promoted himself as "exactly like Trump."
Things now are really problematic for DeSantis if he wants to run for President.
As a "I'm just like Trump" candidate - how can he run against Trump? - except on the feeble line that "I'm more electable than Trump"?
And the "I'm against aiding Ukraine just like Trump" - "just kidding, we really need to support Ukraine" flip-flop, perfectly illustrates how screwed DeSantis is.
Meanwhile, factor in the Press - Trump's in the middle of scandal after scandal, adeptly portraying his woes as some sort of them-against-us witch hunt. Free press galore - and extremely galvanizing!
Finally - Trump has a vast swath of locked-in votes - no matter what he does. DeSantis does not. This is a unique advantage in any primary - especially since those locked-in voters of Trump are radical, energized and politically active and are much more likely to vote in primaries than your run-of-the-mill Republican.
As I've said all along - Trump is almost certainly going to be the next Republican candidate for US President - and the only reasonably foreseeable event that can possibly derail this outcome is that Trump dies - unlikely due to genetics. Of course Trump may somehow lose favor with his supporters or at least with enough of them to alter this outcome - but I cannot see any reasonable possibility that this will occur.
On the bright side, in a Biden versus Trump contest - I think that Biden will prevail - but not with certitude. Voters are fickle - and if enough bad things happen in the months or weeks preceding election - there's every possibility that Trump may pull off another massively unexpected win in the vein of Hillary v. Trump 2016.
