US Politics Thread

"The poll also finds that Americans split over the investigation launched by House Republicans into Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s handling of the Trump case, with 38% saying they disapprove of the GOP’s efforts to investigate him, 35% saying they approve, and a sizable 27% unsure how they feel about the investigation."
They’re unsure because they have no idea what those fucksticks are doing investigating the DA.

Ah! What a glorious April! The first of many indictments against Trump has finally occurred. As expected, this has propelled Trump to an unassailable position as top Republican candidate for President. Early doors, but Biden v. Trump in 2024 looks all but inevitable.

This is great news for Democracy and for Democrats. The Right will be consumed with name-calling, hateful rhetoric, conspiracy theories, anti-wokeism (whatever that is) and divisive antics right up until election day. And I think that many swing voters are already fed up with this.

My way, way too early prediction - massive blue wave in 2024.

Do you really think it's great news for democracy that this has been timed to propel trump to the fore? I think it allows him to campaign as a martyr and whatever the result keeps the fractures in your broken political system as wide as ever.
Hopefully trump ends up ineligible for any political office, but as a martyr his followers will just go for whatever redneck he endorses. If said redneck runs an effective campaign then it might just tip the balance back away from GoP.

I'd much prefer that Trump run against Biden than any nearly any other MAGA candidate because Trump is such a dislikable figure. All the hoopla that attends to his indictments is going to hurt his poll numbers among swing voters.

Trump is beloved by the Right - but he's (among) the least electable of their candidates. And this is why it's great news for Democracy - not great in the sense that it's the best of all possibilities - but rather great in the sense that some MAGA candidate is likely to win the nomination and given that outcome, it's best that the least electable among them win.

Too, the very fact that Trump has been indicted is great - if not essential - for Democracy. No one is above the law.

>> Hopefully trump ends up ineligible
Sadly, even conviction won't disqualify Trump from office.

I totally get your point, but do you think the polarization of your politics (for which I think trump is responsible) is a good thing?

From what we know I think he would get jail time. Cohen did.

But also we don't know what the detail is yet.

And this is 1 of 4 legal issues he has that look pretty serious. This, the rape case, the Georgia case and Jan 6th.

He's been stalling every step of the way in the E Jean Carroll case:

No, of course not :-)

Sadly, populism isn't just an American phenomenon.

Were I to have my druthers, I'd much rather that Republicans in the ilk of Romney were at the fore of the party.
