Tennessee state Reps. Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville), Justin Jones (D-Nashville), and Justin Pearson (D-Memphis), dubbed the “Tennessee three” by gun control supporters, voted Thursday against a bill adding armed security to schools in Tennessee.
The school safety bill, HB 322, passed by a vote of 95-4.

House Bill 322 passed the House with bipartisan support in a vote of 95 to 4 after a lengthy debate on Thursday morning. Reps. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville, and Justin Pearson, D-Memphis, all voted against the bill, as did Rep. Torrey Harris, D-Memphis. They said the bill doesn't the root [sic] causes of school shootings.
While the bill was initially filed long before a shooter gunned down six people, including three 9-year-old children, at The Covenant School last week, several additions were made as a legislative response to the tragedy.
It includes several policies unveiled by Gov. Bill Lee this week, including requiring additional emergency drills in both public and private schools and increasing security collaboration with state and local law enforcement. The bill does not restrict access to firearms.
