US Politics Thread

The irony is Ronald Reagan would have absolutely detested and been horrified by Donald Trump, maybe even more more than the rest of the guys on this list combined have been. Reagan was arguably the most altruistically-motivated President the US has had since Carter. It might not even be arguable.

Yes, stark parallels to how I imagine the likes of Thatcher and Churchill would have viewed a certain philandering tosser that inhabited the halls of No. 10.

Actual Conservatism led by the ideals for which it was initially designed is effectively dead. The new mob conserve nothing but their own egos and relentless grifting. Everything else is for the birds.

Any chance of Rudy not being able to post bail? We know he’s broke as he’s already gone to Trump cap in hand to ask for support with legal fees. If I were a bondsman I’d be thinking twice about posting bail for any of this mob.
He turned up in a private jet. I think he's got his bail covered.

Don the Con is desperate to protect his asset.

Yes I agree. In the US at least, once moderate Democrats co-opted the idea of "compassionate capitalism", or whatever, the nation unified around the Gulf War which erased the military spending debate, and we got a 40-year bull bond market as a tailwind for the economy, all Conservatives had left was -- as a few have pointed out -- the Newt Gingrich idea of focusing on the difference between Biblical social constructs and post-60s Baby Boomer liberalism, or more generally, rural vs. urban. And that stupid wedge has been driven deeper and deeper ever since.

It’s sad how the a political party could sell out its own constituents(Labor class)for political power. Sure you could argue that it eventually proved the Republicans are also full of shit but it still sleazy.
