US Politics Thread

Haley is not a viable Republican candidate. She is the kind of candidate that Democrats and liberals think Republicans should have. Democrats like her because she is a creature of the bloviated system of corruption and kickbacks, and liberals like her because she comes across as a beatable conservative who they can still like after they've crushed her.

If Trump drops out today, Haley's numbers won't change. Ramaswamy and DeSantis will simply rise up into the 30s. Almost no rank-and-file conservative voter likes Haley. She is a military industrial complex candidate with victimhood points. Yuk!
{Quickly bets $1,000 on Nikki winning the nomination at +550 based on Dax's track record of predictions}.

Some of your analysis is right.

1. The Republican base is not a monster though. It's just your average Americans tired of terrible government representation that's unresponsive to the majority.

Yes, you are right though, Country club type Republicans aren't really that popular.

True but in my opinion it’s worse for the GOP because the GOP has been on running on white grievance/white evangelicalism since 70s and we are watching the natural cycle of where that goes. The only reason they have had and in some cases do still have a bit of runway left is cause US electoral politics allows for minority rule. I’m pretty sure the Senate Democrats represent 50 million more Americans than the Senate Republicans yet there is a near 50/50 split in the Senate. In some state governments like Missouri and Ohio, Republicans have gerrymandered so much of it that they only need at times 45%-48% of the votes to control state governments.

This is a good assessment. The days of country club Republicans like Bush family, Cheney, Romney, and etc are dead for the foreseeable future. The base that Trump has monopolized have made it loud and clear about their feelings towards those type of Republicans so anytime I hear about the likes of Hayley I just laugh. The monster of a base that the GOP has crafted since the start of the Southern Strategy are now taking the reins.
This overlooked the fact that Trump did not win with his poorly educated idiot base alone. Plenty of old rich white guys and some of their wife's also voted Trump although perhaps kept it quiet at the club.

The problem for the GOP is the idiot base are neither smart or loyal to the party. They don't vote down ticket and they don't donate other than to Trump's grift. Trump can not win with the base alone. 2020 proved that, and that was before Jan 6th. Hayley would probably also lose but at least its a step in the right direction.

The speaker of the house said they're blurring out the faces of 1/6 rioters to protect them from being charged by the DOJ.

We have a flat-out insurrectionist leading the GQP.

It should be frightening how friendly a political party is towards right wing paramilitary groups….

A step in the right direction for who? The Democrats? It's seems mos people on the left just assume the opposition is supposed to lay down so they can win. Republicans don't want milk toast conservative candidates Democrats would like. Just like you don't see Democrats chumping at the bit for the likes of Manchin. Republicans would like those centrist Democrats more too.

Hence why the Democrat loved candidates like Nikki Haley, Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney and the like, are perpetual loser type candidates.

These are just not the kinds of national candidates Republicans want.

It's Trump, who is great in terms of pushing Conservative agenda without remorse. And if not him, you want Desantis. Why? Because he is a competent Conservative Governor who doesn't grovel to the media and the left. And at worst, conservatives will settle for the Upstart kid Vivek. Who is by a large margin the smartest candidate on either side of the divide.

Sure, Democrats, Leftists and the State media don't like these candidates, but that's par for the course. No media liked Republican candidate has won the Presidency in 50 years.

It is as good a sign that you are guaranteed to lose as a Republican when the media likes you. It simply means you are weak. The media has never liked a strong Republican candidate...

So yeah @FogBlueInSanFran please bet the house on Haley. :)
