I know CNN changed their editorial stance a while back to move to the centre right. Shit like that without being challenged is turning it towards Faux News.
Caitlin Johnson - a known GOP member is the equivalent of our Tory K. She's everywhere on there promoting their policies.
We talked about it before, but it is actually fairly similar to what is happening in UK media. They are all moving nearer to the position on the political spectrum that will get them the most viewers as their belts tighten.
And younger people, who mostly skew progressive, are simply not watching cable/broadcast news at anywhere near the same rate as the older people (which came up on legacy media).
It is why the most progressive news outlets are mostly online (either via their own distribution platforms or via prominent social media platforms), where the younger demographic spend most of their time.
I am just in the middle of that age divide now, and am very progressive, and I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I watched news on the TV. And I only consume BBC or CNN from posts sent to me in WhatsApp or on here, as I have gone off Twxttxr and Instagram completely in the last year, have never started on TikTok, and have proudly been off Facebook for about a decade.
I mostly read long form articles from The Atlantic, The Economist, and a few other more traditional outlets with a strong online presence, and watch Vox and expert analysis videos when available.
I have absolutely no interest in the “talking heads” (which is really now the “screaming gobs”) format of “news”. But many older than me seem to, and they skew far less progressive the further up the age pyramid you go, both in the UK and the US (though, as we have also discussed, the baseline in the UK would start near “dirty communists” in the US).
