1. The betting odds on City being relegated next year have gone from 2,500-1 to 25-1. I wonder how many posters here have bet on City being relegated. Must be a lot. After all, we are all closer to the facts of the case than fans of other clubs. That's the only explanation.

2. You realiz(s)e who owns the site you linked to, right?

3. The reason so many people support Trump is that he's a Republican and the vast majority of party-aligned folks vote their party no matter who the specific candidates are.
>> 1. Relevance?

>> 2. The odds are factual and appear to be correctly reported from the site I referenced. Take your pick from any of these odds quotations (the first few results that show up on Google for me). It's all the same.

And so on ad nauseum.

>> 3. Agree. And yet, Republicans rightly abandoned Nixon for much less. Hence the question: What's changed since Nixon and why is support for Trump so high given all that's transpired and that's known about him?

Are you SURE you understand why odds change? I mean . . . really sure?

Re Nixon: Republican voters continued to support him 2-to-1 up until the end. It was those Republicans (and Democrats) actually doing their jobs as elected officials that turned against him. And even THEN there were some who didn't turn against him until the smoking gun tape.

Why are these yanks still comparing anyone to Nixon like he is at all relevant these days? As bad as he was, and he was poison as a deeply paranoid and insecure man, the Republican Party is now filled with idiots even he would roll his eyes at. The Republican Party at the time of Nixon had the balls to impeach him. These jokers over there now couldnt do that despite that prick being the most dangerous man ever to be heard or known let alone elected. Its lunacy there

Here he is praising LBJ, unlike Trump he can compliment others without bragging about his own qualities in the same sentence.

Also unlike Trump he didn't storm out of interviews or throw tantrums when out of office. Compare Frost v Nixon to Trump v Morgan.

It’s a ridiculous comparison, agreed. GOP was partisan for a while but once the facts/lies dripped out, by the end there were very few loyalists left because Congress/Senate/WH staff knew their real duty was to the COUNTRY, not the party, and certainly not any single one President.

Tell that to Al Gore. That was a stolen election

The comparison is apt because he was the last President who committed crimes while in office that would rise to the level of impeachable offense in a non-partisan weighing of fact.

I agree with your assessment of the Republican party - but the party representation reflects the will of Republicans - Republicans voted these candidates into office.

How did this come to pass? How is it that Republicans now support amoral, mendacious - and in some cases - criminals or would-be criminals? What happened to the centrist Republican? Are centrists still the majority but they're going to vote Republican because they always have? Or has America changed since the 1970's - and the centrist Republican is a rare species.

The state of the Republican party is due to a complex confluence of many events, and it's not just Trump.
