US Politics Thread

Of all the fucked up lies and offensive things Trump/Vance have said in the campaign I have to that persisting with this conspiracy that FEMA is withholding funds to spend on Helene recovery in favour of foreign aid and migrants is particularly callous.

Particularly when it's repeatedly been pointed out to them by officials from both parties that the government is providing all the support requested. And that the continual misrepresentation on this issue is hampering revovery/relief efforts.

It's sick.

But both sides are exactly like each other and their rhetoric and actions are equally valid and worthy of dissemination and amplification.

I know this because several esteemed and impartial scholars of American politics and political history have told us this ad nauseam in this thread.

It’s just like the yearly family Christmas gathering: if we didn’t allow uncle Arthur to come, the gathering would have no racist, homophobic, sexist, and transphobic ramblings, no one chatting up and sexualising the teenage girls, no absolutely mad and—on occasion—violent conspiratorial diatribes, no far-right propaganda masked as “just asking questions”, no one to shit themselves at the dinner table because of years of unchecked substance abuse has left him with no rectum control, no one to call for the mass incarceration and deportation of “vermin” immigrants, and no pissed up brawls at the end of evening because he didn’t like how someone looked in his direction.

And that would leave us with a very one-sided gathering, which would be a travesty.

3 points:

1. The government response to this disaster has been woeful to say the least. But as usual, the propagandists are focused on the "rhetoric of the other side." Like that has one iots of effect on your ability to do your job.

2. As it relates to "providing all the support requested." Sure they are now after the fact. But prior to the disaster, there was an opportunity for the government to create a better communication protocols. But out of "possibly spite, and almost likely "favoritism and corruption " the government froze out Elon Musk's star link as an option. And now in the aftermath and after delays they are now rushing to use Starlink as a communication option.

This is the "ideology free" run of the mill incompetence many conservatives speak of.

And finally, it is wild to argue "misrepresentation on the issue is hampering recovery/ relief efforts."

That's just a wild claim. At best, in so far as there is any misrepresentation going on, the worst that brings is give a poorer perception of the recovery efforts by the government. It has almost no effect on relief or recovery.

It's not me saying it's hampering rescue efforts its officials (including Republican ones) saying it. It's FEMA having to set up anti conspiracy sections of their website. It's people working on recovery efforts that are saying it.

Trump, Vance, Musk have all been told this.

By the way, Musk has billions worth of government contracts. Even the hint that he isn't winning a contract out of spite is wibble, wibble territory. That sounds like it comes straight out of a MAGA speech book.
