US Politics Thread

I was just taken aback by the sweep of his nonsense, which included the classic that US gov spending will be halved, thus making way for the much more responsible power that is China.
I don't agree with his take but I enjoy a different view. I don't think it will work out like that, but 10 years ago I didn't think the world would be like it is now either.

Whether he'd want to withdraw support for Ukraine or not is irrelevant. The maniacal orangutan will be shut down by NATO and all it's member states.

It's important to address, even if he gets in, the scope of his powers is very limited. As Swiss Cheese has pointed out, there are enough checks and balances in place to stop him going full fascist. The US is still, remarkably, a democracy.

There were enough checks and balances in 2017. I wouldn’t be so sure in 2025. He has already sorted out SCOTUS and his handlers now understand the areas they need to control much better so I envisage him sacking the remaining adults in the room and installing Trumpers, particularly in the military and other areas that look after security. If Congress goes his way the country’s fucked but if it’s a Democrat controlled House then there’s a chance his worst excesses can be controlled.

It was a prediction. I’ll quote it back to you at some point x
