US Politics Thread

Is the US more religious than other countries? Here in the UK, Christianity is dwindling and I do wonder if a minority are leading countries down a road that they don’t want to go down?
It’s practically gone here in Ireland. Maybe not up North. There’s others better able to answer that on here.
When you consider where we were for half a century, it was exposed, the youth of today wouldn’t have it.
But world wide it’s the extremes, the fundamentalists of various religions that only seem to see one way of life and woe betide anyone who doesn’t see things their way.
It is and always was a way of controlling the masses, but it’s a little freaky the regression that looks likely in America, if power lands in the hands of these Bible thumpers.

Religiousness in the US is nothing more than a matter of identity. Nobody of supposed 'Christian' values would behave and value things in the way that right-wing 'Christians' do in the US.

I mean you only have to look at the quandry of gun ownership on the right which is often god, country, guns. How can a Christian own a weapon which has the sole purpose of causing death to another? It's utterly moronic.

This actually applies to all religions where as religiousness increases so does brutality, violence and intolerance. It's all the more reason to purge all religion entirely from society but unfortunately we can't. This is ironic given religion struggles to tolerate anything except itself!

A criminal is elected mayor and some how they expect the warden to keep his own son, a civilian who committed a petty crime, in jail? a country full of lunatics
The whole situation is just too depressing for words.

The political equivalent of City's current form, except without the hope for any improvement for years to come.

Exactly. It's really not about Christian values. The word Christian, Conservative and Liberal have all taken a different meaning now.

For example, when a cop shoots a black person, if you read the comment segments on political tabloids, you would see things like "Another liberal gone, good riddance", well, how did you know the victim was a liberal? And when you read about immigration, you would see comments like "our Christian values are being swept away", interestingly a lot of the migrants come from predominantly Christian south American countries so what "Christian" values are being swept away? When you read between the lines it's clear to see how words have taken a completely different meaning in the political world.

I saw a video of a conservative calling Kemi Adeosun a "culture warrior", despite him being a member of her party and then he quickly turned around and spoke about " English cultural values". It's the same way football fans claim Kompany is a "D.E.I" hire. Thanks to American politics you can say some of the most despicable things but just have it wrap up in some dog whistle that the intended crowd understands.

All of this is about identity and hijacking Christianity is just an attempt to legitimise that identity. None of what they stand for is Christian unless getting pissed up, having a fight or shooting people is considered Christian, it isn't.

It's the same with this sudden attachment to Israel and claims of supporting Jews despite considerable evidence that the majority of anti-semitic incidents come from the right. You can actually imagine Tommy Robinson and his ilk in the streets. They'll wave their Israeli flags, see a Jewish person walk by and then go about making anti-semitic tropes.

Supporting Israel is therefore now part of their identity too but that hasn't come out of solidarity, it's purely because Israel are bombing Muslims.
