This particular presidential power is only new to those who either didn’t know it existed or were not familiar with the fact that it has been used for almost 250 yrs!

That wasn’t exactly “news!” Telling people “I predict the sun is going to rise in the East and set in the West tomorrow” doesn’t get one a victory lap…even in the Bluemoon Politics thread! ;-)

And, anyone who thought Hunter was NOT getting a full pardon is insane!

The problem is two-fold:

1. People who said Joe Biden was lying when he promised to respect the decision of the jury, and that he would not pardon Hunter because no-one was above the law were excoriated at the time for saying Joe Biden was lying.

"But but Trump!"

You know Joe Biden? The one that calls Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans a "threat to democracy" then meets him all smiles in the White House and promises a peaceful transition of power?

2. This is more than a "full pardon" which is always written with specificity. According to (I forget her name, I posted about her a few pages ago) the lawyer who worked in the DOJ from 1990 to 1997 as the "pardon expert" this pardon in it's scope and breadth and general nature is unlike any other ever, except the one granted Richard Nixon.

What kind of storybook Fairy Tale is this? Oh, and it is Constitutional power, so good luck with any change of that!

Most Americans don’t bat an eyelid over most pardons, then there is the occasional one that gets a second look, but most people are simply immune to any serious or deep feeling about it.

The ONLY thing that has raised an eyebrow is the timing, as most would have expected it to be a “last day” pardon, but events behind the scenes might have brought that forward.

Either way, it’ll be news for the minute it comes out of the broadcaster’s mouth, and then another minute on the 24/7 news analysis shows, then tomorrow the sun will rise in the East again!

I was just about to ask that; as in "is it normal to backdate for so long? Or is it uncommon?" Thanks for explaining again.

I accept it as A right.

If I got hot and bothered about everything with which I disagree in the American justice system, my head would have exploded by now.

This RIGHT was enshrined in the Constitution. Changing that, especially for this, is as close to impossible as it gets. Think about political persecution and what the pardon power does.

Trump has been specific in his threats. Biden has protected his son from Trump’s vindictiveness, as ANY Father with such power would do.

I will not waste a second or a brain cell on this pardon. It was inevitable and foreseeable.

I hope he pardons those 4 soldiers that were branded war criminals for a crime they didn't commit in the 80s..

Let’s not forget who Trump nominated as his original AG, and who he’s settled on now the alleged pedo has stepped back!

Judicially, we are on the high dive about to do a triple somersault with a double twist into a thimble full of water.

If Biden pardoning his son has you in a tizzy, you’d better take a seat and a Xanax!

I maintain Garland’s DOJ was NOT weaponized.

I maintain ANYONE who thought Hunter Biden was going to jail is an imbecile.

I maintain anyone who thinks any Trump acolyte is going to jail is an imbecile.

If that is being an open partisan, then I guess I’m guilty. Can I get a pardon?

No one seems to give much of a shit about the victims of the crimes folks get pardoned for.
