I’ve been talking about where and when the tipping point might occur over on a different forum. It was almost 1/6, but we came back from the brink, but only slightly.
Which step is going to be the one?
Which domino?
Which action?
Which election?
I had thought it would be post-midterms, once McCarthy & McConnell get their grubby little mitts on power and completely grind the country to a halt, but this may be it…
Where does one go when a bunch of old white men tell every woman in the country “Welcome back to the 1700s! We OWN your body!”?
What do you tell the young girl being raped RIGHT NOW that she has to carry the unwanted child to term and then either raise it as her own or have it ripped from her in the delivery room never to be seen again?
I saw a smug upper class white woman, for whom overturning Roe will present no issue whatsoever, telling the camera, with a straight face, that overturning Roe was simply protecting both mother and child and the support services they might both need are readily available!
I wanted to reach into the TV and rip her throat out for spouting such bald faced lies in pursuit of her control over other women.
But, I expect NOTHING TO CHANGE.
The decision will become law, Democrats couldn’t get laid in a brothel (pun intended), and Republicans will control
Congress in 2023.
2023-2024 are election season, especially on the Right, but Democrats will have to find someone to run, too, because an impotent 81 year old Biden isn’t going to cut it against the rabid control freaks running the country during his last 2 years pre-24!
America is fucked and The Handmaid’s Tale isn’t just a TV show.
The people who will get hurt the most are the ones that are too stoopid to know they’re the cannon fodder, and think their guns & butter are safe!
TV America is urban and Democratic, but you get a sense of what about 80% of America looks like when you get outside of town or just watch Yellowstone for a taste of the mentality!
The irony is that most Ag land holders in America live off the Govt teat…they just don’t want to recognize it!
Yep, the overall situation feels like a powder keg. I am aware *most* of these are not unique to the US, so would be interested to hear perspectives from elsewhere, but the current landscape you have:
- 30-40% of the country outwardly trying to gut voting rights and basic human rights to remain in power
- Political instability and corruption, to the point we almost had a fucking coup and the former President has been proven to be an absolute shitbag criminal and still might win again
- Rampant income inequality, at levels not seen in living memory
- Skyrocketing housing costs to the point pretty much anyone under 40 may never be able to afford a home
- Skyrocketing rent as a reaction to this because hey, what is America without unbridled capitalism
- Stagnating wages as the cost of living and inflation reach near record highs
- Education costs that are doubling and tripling every few years, to the point entire generations are saddled with college debt they can never get rid of
- The most expensive healthcare system in the world, where any sort of unexpected illness can basically end you financially
- The impacts of climate change becoming more visible by the day
- Racial tensions not seem in my living memory (I'm in my early thirties), I suppose since the Rodney King riots
What have I missed? A tipping point is coming very soon, and I'm not sure what will happen.
