US Politics Thread

I was going to post this earlier but got distracted — to clarify the implication — the Jan 6 hearings have NOT all been “hearsay”. If we look at the witness list, and read the transcripts, there’s first person eyewitness testimony everywhere. In addition, it’s a Congressional hearing, not a trial. In a trial, those named as witnesses by 3rd party witnesses saying they were told such and such can be deposed, or subpoenaed. And all in either hearing or trial are under oath. And perjury is a crime in either case. So while this may not be enough to damn him (and some of his most stalwart defenders like major newspapers are beginning to retreat, like the Washington Examiner), there’s been an undeniable impact.

You may be right about the ultimate outcome of this, but let’s make sure to get the facts right first.
Frequently so much misunderstanding about what constitutes hearsay. tbf it can be hugely complicated.

I was referring to the testimony given by Cassidy Hutchinson with regard to Trump's behavior where she was not present but instead was relating what others said - I should have made that clear.

From time to time, when I can stomach it, I browse FoxNews.com to see what the Right is reading and believes. I'd have expected numerous stories backing Trump and discrediting the 1/6 committee. Instead, I find almost no mention of the committee at all; so perhaps even Fox is taking a bit of a wait and see attitude at present.

Edit - turns out that my lay-person's understanding of what constitutes "hearsay" and where it applies was wrong.

A must read 51 tweet thread summarising the importance of the Independent State Legislature Theory case that the Supreme Court has chosen to hear in October and the grave consequences of the extremist far-right super majority likely deciding in favour of it.

Reminder: Clarence Thomas has already supported the theory in principle in the court’s previous watershed election decision… Bush v Gore.

Many of their recent opinions have being setting up for this seismic decision, both by incrementally undermining precedent and “softening” the public with increasingly controversial, “because we said so” verdicts.

Texas Education Authority have recommended to the State Board of Education that 'slavery' is changed in to 'involuntary relocation'.
Nothing new here. They wanted references to the slave trade changed to the "Atlantic triangular trade"

Fucking idiotic system over there that these 9 unelected cunts have this power.

Saw my first-ever Proud Boy in the flesh this afternoon in Little Italy district in Cleveland. He had all the cosplay gear on; black and yellow, Under Armor, Don’t Tread on Me, 3%ers, Oakleys etc. Bless.

What was more disturbing is that his two, I assume, sons aged probably 12-14 were kitted out pretty much the same, like little POS mini-me’s.
