US Politics Thread

The fact check piece I quoted gave a potted history of the far rights popularity and influence and it certainly seems it’s waned over the years. I’m not sure what can be taken from a 2015 article such as the one you’ve linked to.

Ironically the Russian invasion has served to increase the stock of the Azov but not as much I suspect as Zelensky’s stock has risen.

Will be interesting to see what the mood is in Ukraine if or when this conflict ends and the country is trying to refind itself. A surge of nationalism?

No more credible sources than Marjorie Taylor Green or Duma to substantiate the accusation that the US/ Biden is funding neo nazis?

To be fair, I'm a little distracted, but I'm happy to address your question over the short period. Just not promising today or tomorrow.

So your question at the end of your post has been bothering me.

I think you've framed this from a position that comes across disingenuous by accident or design, but either way, the result of which has been posted.

The US or NATO are not going to actively fund Neo Nazis, you won't find that in any official news, anywhere. That's not their position. Their position is to fund Ukraine.

Whatever Zelenskyy does to distribute that funding is down to him and Biden would be right to shrug his shoulders, but he'll know, internally.

So, the question is, if the Azov battalion are managing to keep fighting the Russians, where are they getting their reups from?

No deliberate attempt on my part to be disingenuous and I'm not sure it is possible to be so by accident. That pedantry aside though:

It's a question but is it the question. Of course the US or NATO are not going to actively fund Neo nazis but it would seem churlish not to fund Ukraine, just in case some of that funding were to fall into the hands of Neo nazis. Ukraine may well have a problem with the far right but that currently pales into insignificance compared to the problem of repelling an invading force.

The Azov may have different end goals in their sights but they are also a little preoccupied and who knows what their strength will be at the end of this conflict. If some of the funding, ultimately distributed by Zelensky falls into the hands of the far right in their current joint battle to protect their homeland then it almost begs the question so what?

There's no prizes for guessing the motivation of Marjorie Taylor Green and Duma in raising the question. I'm not sure where she stands on the right of Ukrainians to protect their country.

Your dislike of Biden is obvious and well documented but wasn't it you being a bit disingenuous in gleefully asking the question about him arming Neo nazis when the truth is much more nuanced than that?

Well, we both acknowledge the truce to fight a 'greater' enemy to the country of Ukraine.

I could give a shit about Taylor Green's opinions about Neo Nazis, in general, but a broken clock and all that.

The point of my thoughts are the celebratory nature of not supporting 'Neo Nazis' in the US military (which is great), but allowing support, indirectly, in another country. Nothing 'disingenuous' about that.

As I said before, enemy of my enemy...

And that last sentence suggests you didn't read the fact check article.

So all this was whataboutery to distract from the Republicans voting against dealing with Nazis in the US military?
