US Politics Thread

Trump supporters are a really thick bunch. They're back on their hobby horse of stolen elections because the Dems won some seats in tight races with late counted votes.

What these cretins fail to understand is that no state finalised its vote count within a day or so of the midterms. All had varying small percentages of uncunted votes to go. Results were called without waiting until all votes were counted if the winning margins were higher than the number of uncounted votes. Where the result was very close they couldn't call it until all the votes had been counted.

They also can't get their heads round that, by their logic, Boebert stole the election in Colorado through the same delayed late counted votes like they accuse Dems of doing elsewhere.

Disagree on genuine chance.

She may not be authoritarian like Trump but she'll be reviled by the Christian Nationalists for not falling in line when Trump gave them the scotus majority.

I'd say DeSantis has the nomination in the bag but I'm not sure he has the general election yet.. Gen Z will make or break the next election. Lets see if abortion, college student debt still resonate in 2 years.
I don't think she has a genuine chance, but this election gives her an angle that's greater than no chance.

You are right about Gen Z I think. As I pointed out earlier -- Gen Z is going to add about 8.5 million potential voters between now and 2024 -- the 2nd and 3rd biggest birth years since the late 50s/early 60s baby boom turn 18 between now and 2024 -- while a few million older voters die.

I would say initially I was no chance but my thinking is this is moving in the direction where she has a chance.

The Christian Nationalist angle is valid and they won't like her. Same for any MAGA types. They want Trump. But the angle for her is the growing number of GOP voters who want to move on. Many will just move on to DeSantis but there is a long way to go and a it can change.

I think if she runs it's out of vengeance and on the basis she has a very outside shot. She would need Trump to get locked up or something. There is a chance that happens.

When I think of popular Republicans, people like Trump, DeSantis and Abbott spring to mind. In spite of the recent election results - it's someone of that ilk - unless I very much misread Republican sentiment - who will be their next nominee for president.

Cheney has not even a snowball's chance in hell.

More good news.
It appears that the election denier Kari Lake is unlikely to catch Hobbs in the race for Arizona governor. Since Arizona is a swing state - and since, in Arizona, the governor has a lot of control over elections - it's extremely important that Hobbs prevail in order to help safeguard the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
