US Politics Thread

Trump's presidential run announcement is the earliest anyone has ever announced a run for the Whitehouse by a long way. It is no coincidence that he made the call just as former white house aide Cassidy Hutchinson testifies to the Atlanta Special Grand Jury over Trumps infamous attempt to overturn the election in the state of Georgia.

Almost as if he thinks that because he's a candidate that it gives him some form of protection from prosecution. In reality all it will give him is a pretty limp stick to try and beat DoJ with when claiming 'witch hunt' against a political opponent.

Desperate cnut!!!
Absolutely. That's my belief too. And also -- the sooner he goes, the longer he has to fleece his flo . . . errrr, raise money.

The MAGA idiots who've been crying 'rigged elections' again simply because some Dems won with late vote counts seem to have gone a bit quiet now that the GOP gained control of the House with late vote counts over a week after the election. It might have even dawned on a few of them that if the Dems could have rigged or did rig the vote their primary objective would have been to retain control of the House, the one thing they didn't do.
Nothing's dawned on anyone. It is a pile of gerbil shit, and they of course know it. The modus operandi is lie, get the lie to spread among the faithfully deluded, and move on to the next lie. And they get away with it because, as so many not-here-anymore posters said so often, "all politicians lie." So that makes it okay. And if caught red-handed, it's whataboutery. I am quite sure there is some explanation (read: lie) as to why only votes that go against reds are rigged that the batshit brainwashed will eat up with spoons.

It’s probably not because the GOP have been telling their sheep that if they vote by mail or dropbox it’s likely their votes will be rigged.

The shut down of the government is nailed on. But strategically I think it helps the dems. It puts a spotlight on the issues each side wants to push and the GQP don't have anything popular.

It’s already begun.

Edit: you can tell they have really done their research.

The real unknown factor here is, what do the true MAGA believers do if Rhonda Santis gets the nod? Do they refuse to vote for an election stealer? Because I am willing to bet Trump will be more than happy to extend his stolen vote narrative to Republican candidate primaries than ever countenance admitting he lost anything. I can also believe Trump would go scorched Earth and stand as an independent, knowing he’d split the GOP vote but not caring as long as he beat DeSantis.

We also have 2 years now of a super-weak GOP House majority where they’ll be at the mercy of Trump headbangers, causing huge amounts of noise but doing fuck all. Sane Republicans will hate it. Moderate republican voters and the wider electorate will hate it even more. So if Trump gets the nod, everyone will have had a multi-year reminder of the awfulness, corruption and ineptitude of his administration before polling day.

While Biden and the Dems may have a few awkward things come their way from the house, it’s not going to be anywhere near as awkward as the potential GOP implosion. And we’ve seen exactly what that leads to with the Tories here. I’m sure the Dems would have liked to hold the house, but in some ways this may even work out better for them.

Whitmer is a good shout. Very good idea. I don't think Newsom has a snowball's chance in hell in a primary -- there are skeletons there best left undisturbed. Warren would almost make me vote for DeSantis. In some ways she's a bigger demogogue than Trump. I wouldn't count out Buttigieg yet. Good name recognition, sharp as a tack, young, but inexperienced -- and is it too early for a gay person to be President of the USA? Stupidly, probably.
One that i think is a big "miss" and could have been worth a shout was Gabbard.
Thoughts she ticked so many boxes. Of course she would have to align herself with a party now, as no independent, not even The Don running as one, stands a chance.

Tulsi is and has always been a grifter and has rightfully found her place in the world.
