Not sure it's as simple as everyone thinks. Trump has not faced a primary since 2015. Back then the other candidates did not know what had hit them and the media could not stop talking about him.

So much has changed, Trump has declared so early, his ralies are shit now. Low attendances and he drones on about the same old BS. Is going to keep that going for nearly 2 years? His success came when he appealed to a demographic that historically did not vote in big numbers. They could just crawl back under their rocks.

Like all bands whose third and fourth records are shit compared to their first two, eventually they fade from general popularity, except for those hardcore fans — dedicated but few in numbers — who go to every show but only want to hear the old hits.

As for his die hards, well, as someone pointed out thoughtfully before — it’s kind of hard to “hate” Joe Biden the same way it is a black man or a woman. Just being old isn’t enough, because Trump is old, and so is a lot of his looney support base.

The problem the other candidates have is that they can't talk about his issues because they've all played dumb and justified everything he's done. Nobody can say he attempted a coup because they've all described 1/6 as either a peaceful protest or an attack by antifa. They certainly can't say that he lost the 2020 election. If they try to point out that he's a wannabe dictator they'll be knocking their own idea of what government should be. And what's Desantis going to say about the way he handled covid? He's the same guy who pushed hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin while spreading lies about the vaccine. Other than Cheney, Kinzinger or Mitt Romney there isn't anybody in the GQP who can credibly claim to have differing policies than him.

DeSantis is a far better campaigner than Trump.

He sounds more like an intelligent politician, even if his policy and track record is standard GQP BS. Trump just wines about the stolen election, he does not do scripts and he does not listen to anyone. Even if he did listen he doesn't have good people around him.

Trumps campaign will be shit.

True. Being fucking stupid, completely venal and having no original ideas other than to lambast other people as cildishly as possible may not be a winner this time around.

It scares me that in a two-party system like we have one of those parties has a strained relationship with reality. If we didn't have the military/arsenal that we've amassed it wouldn't be so scary but if the Democrats go nuts or the GQP takes power again it could spell doom for the rest of the world. I mean, the racist pumpkin just talked about same day arrests, trials and executions of drug dealers in a speech. Normalizing mass executions isn't something you want to see in America because it would just be a matter of time before we justify using nukes against countries we see as threats. At the very least they'd align us with Russia and North Korea which would dissolve NATO and create chaos.
