US Politics Thread

I posed a question a couple of pages back, from a neutral position, an open question to ask whether this new ruling would enforce personal responsibility when it comes to sex, outside the usual caveats.

Not one person had the courage to answer it because it put a dent in their reasoning about abortion being an everyday use as a contraceptive because no other form was used. As far as I know there are 20+ ways to prevent pregnancy in the US.

I found the side step of the question very interesting and that's me in favour of a woman's autonomy over her own body.

It's not a good look for the women. That country gets worse every day. Getting like a one party state. Glad l am here with any British politician in charge from any party.

Today, I spoke to my oldest daughter who is 30 and in the LGBTQ+ community. She agrees with me that from the choices available for women and sexual consent, abortion should never be a resort (unless other forms of contraception fails, I think she meant).

I, honestly, thought she wouldn't be staunchly in favour of this ruling.

Whilst I didn't ask her this part of the question, I'm assuming she's in favour of responsibility to protect oneself in and around the act of sex away from abortion.

Does LGBTQ+ mean lesbian in this instance?

Good that you can both speak freely and that she has her own opinions, not following Der Party line like so many on here. They don't seem to know what happens at conception let alone at a late abortion. It's gruesome.

It doesn't matter to you or anyone else.

That's her community and some of whom I've met.

Well it's just one view but thanks for sharing.

But if you don't have contact with sperm I can see why a woman might not think it as a big a problem.

But it is a bit of a false premise though because the people who just got abortion banned aren't pro-contraception.

So it's just a hypothetical and not relevant to USA.

It's interesting you chose not to answer my open question.

Why? What was the problem with attributing responsibility with 20+ forms of contraception in and around sex?

I saw your post and took it as a genuine attempt to broaden the discussion and it has made me think. I don’t have a full answer but thoughts i do have are that contraceptives can fail, women are often pressured not to use them and that human passion being what it is then sadly people get themselves into positions they wouldn’t anticipate. Also, and I’m thinking as i go along, relationships fail, men run a mile from an unwanted pregnancy, in short I don’t think it’s as simple as women in backward American states will now have to be more responsible.

I also think it’s disingenuous to suggest abortion is a form of contraception and I don’t think you put a dent in anyone’s argument in that respect because I don’t think anyone has made it.

I don’t know for sure because I don’t know how many people have you on ignore these days and rather than sidestepping your post just haven’t seen it.

What everyone did see and responded to was the deliberately inflammatory post from Bonzo and truth be told he rather than you should be on everyone’s ignore list. I don’t believe he is genuinely interested in debate or discussion, he is the type of **** who pretends to be a vicar and in reality brings nothing to the forum.

You are a contentious but thought provoking poster, nothing to do with me but I genuinely find it sad that you find yourself allied with that ****.

It’s a false premise. Republicans (generally) aren't in favour of the morning after pill and they aren't in favour of funding contraception clinics.

You are also assuming that people don't already take responsibility.

Thanks for the response.

I don't feel comfortable not challenging my comfort zone. I find it dangerous, therefore I come out of it and see other aspects of a debate. Like I've said because of that I find myself agreeing with sensible aspects of right wing thinking as life isn't black and white. Those agreements are extremely far and few between.

Because I challenge myself and others people see me as **** and that's fine with me.

For Bonzo, I don't know him but rather than designate the '****' wording to him, why don't people his thought process and how he gets there? It's called discussion much of which is an echo chamber for the same people to slap themselves on their backs.

As for contraception, I understand the trust breaking down in a long term relationship, but it's not an excuse for the short term, where I believe this and one night stands is where much of the abortion stats come from.

I couldn't believe the amount of times I've seen women state they prefer 'raw sex' on polling videos, compared to ones that take contraception.

It can't all be lies.

Do you think a parent who would have otherwise aborted their child, is more likely to in some way neglect the child when born?

It's not a false premise, though is it?

If someone can travel out of state for an abortion, what's to stop that person getting a stock of contraception?

Are people so desperate for sex they're willing to take chances, especially with someone they hardly know, if at all??

My daughter made me expand on my original thinking and I think she's correct.

Very much agree with that.

It’s like a social outcast at school befriending another, only the other kid isn't just an awkward and misunderstood soul but a teenage psychopath who tortures animals and upskirts girls.

The vicar impersonation probably has the opposite effect as he intended, as it just makes me think it is even more likely that he is a nonce.

But freely available contraception has already pushed abortion rates down.

It’s a failsafe. Nobody who uses the service, apart from vulnerable people with mental health issues think otherwise.

It’s a traumatic experience and I don't think many women would choose to undergo it for a second time if they could avoid it.

I see some Senators are saying Kavanaugh deliberately misled them when they questioned him re. Roe v Wade during his nomination.

Not sure why this should come as a surprise to them but if it makes a few people wake up to what they are dealing with and start fighting fire with fire maybe some good will ultimately come of it.

FFS Bigga... Personal responsibility? You sound like a Right Winger. Are you Riyadh Mahrez?

I appreciate you 'challenging yourself' as you have. But I'll stop short of commending you. As it is EASIER to "challenge" the prevailing viewpoint on the ideological side you belong to when you don't have skin in the game.

Here, the issue is about women and their rights. None of which applies directly to you. It'd be more impressive to see you challenge yourself on issues that directly apply to you... I.e. Leftist stands on Black issues. Now that would be impressive.

But overall, I agree there is a discussion to be had here. Even though some are pretending it's an open and shut case and they are on the side of the angels. I'm not so sure they are Right.

Those Senators are either Liars, stupid or think their supporters are stupid. Probably all 3

What gives you (or any man) the right to choose what happens to a woman’s body?
