I think Fox needs to tread very carefully.

It’s always been dishonest but some of the rhetoric they pumped out when the raid first happened and they were struggling to find a United line to fall behind was downright dangerous and the kind of stuff that would look really, really bad in the aftermath of bloodshed.

If Trumps lot try and fail with violence there’s going to be one hell of a backlash and something like a new fairness doctrine could come out of it and permanently cripple them.
I have said previously in this thread, I truly believe they are heading for a civil war. Nobody seems to be listening to the mood music.

Who are the two sides in the Civil War 2.0?

There will be terrorist actions. Not a civil war.
As long as the DoJ can successfully deal with the Trump crime family, and the rest of the fucknuckles that participated in the attempted coup, including all those lawmakers and members if government who lied for and covered up for them, then the country can start to move on.

The fucknuckles haven't moved on from Jan 6, over 2 years later. In fact they have all (and I include the GOP) doubled down In their belief that Trump won.

Call it what you like it will still be American citizen against American citizen. In my book that is civil war. Fellow countrymen fighting fellow countrymen.
I don’t think we call The Troubles a Civil War. Semantics aside, I see the worst case scenario as something more akin to that than the 1860s.

Awful and unpleasant nonetheless.

The coup participants have been gradually but insistently prosecuted and summarily jailed, their lives ruined forever, most of them blubbering and pleading for forgiveness. Politicians who publicly supported all this still have the shield of “political persecution” (including Trump) but that isn’t going to last forever. A few owe ALL to Trump, and they’ll never get off his dick, but most GOPers want well and done with him so they can escape having to kowtow to his depraved criminality and that of his cult members.

I was thinking more the likes of Devin Nunez, Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, MTG, Rick Scott (and others) who have profited and continue to feed at the teat of DJT rather than the dumb fucking zombies who fell for his shtick and donated to the cause.

Yes I get that. They are saying what the base want to hear to keep the gravy chain going. Apart from Cheney and Kinzinger I have heard no ranking or high ranking GOP member condem the dangerous rhetoric that is flying about. Not least the threats to FBI and their families.

Rand Paul is a not right as well.
The day he stood in that doorway and went up against John Brennan for a bill (I forget which), is forever etched in my mind.

I did see something that made me laugh earlier - somebody asked with evidence being produced of Trump aides ripping up documents and flushing them down the bog - why do that when they are in a building ( the White House ) which has 27 fireplaces lol

Do they still use them?

Surely it's a security risk from naked flames or an entrance vulnerable to a drone bomb?

It’s all fun and games, in a country where the freedom to say almost anything is a foundational principle, UNTIL someone gets hurt!

The level of armament within the Police community is eye-watering in 2022, with the National Guard being a significant arm of the US military to bear. Bubba might have a few AR-15s, but when push comes to shove he will die with it in his hands, if he so chooses.

Waco & Ruby Ridge made it clear that the authorities understand force when the population is armed and attempting to be dangerous.

The ONLY potential “worst case scenario” I can see is if there was a “secret Trump military” INSIDE the US military, with access to WMD. Thankfully, I think most in the military see him for what he really is…a bragging con man who will do, and say, ANYTHING for self-aggrandizement and to line his own pockets!

Tonight, when Liz Cheney loses her primary, she supposed to be giving a speech in which she announces she is now going to devote her full-time efforts to recapturing the nation from Trumpism, and ask for like-minded GOPers, Democrats and independents to join her.

It will be interesting. It could be a dud, and she neutralized, but somehow I think (and hope) it will be more akin to an Obi-Wan Kenobi moment: "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

Can't stand her politics, but she's shown a lot of guts (albeit the guts we would have expected any moral, thinking person to show).

Her record on voting shows she was pretty much in lock step with the Don, but she seems to have found her breaking point with what happened on Jan 6.

I'm not sure there is anything she can say at this point that will convince the cult to change their opinion though.

There’s a thought she will run against the Orange Jumpsuit in 2024, just so she can detail his destruction and promote ACTUAL conservative principles.

The field will be heavily whittled down if the OJ runs, but it would be good to see De Santis & Cheney beating him up from both sides on stage for a few debates!

The bigger issue for me is who runs against Biden, if he chooses to run again! Fingers crossed he doesn’t, and Buttigieg, Newsom and the required female(s) run to inject some progressive youth into the race.

Buttigieg versus De Santis would be interesting, as would Newsom vs De Santis…a California vs Florida Governors battle!

Butigieg would be a great shout. He's articulate, calm, well informed and compassionate and seems to have a firm grasp on reality; all fine attributes for any aspiring presidential candidate. However, the sad fact of the matter is that I'm not quite sure the USA is ready to elect an openly gay president considering the amount of people who were more than a bit tentative about the idea of electing a woman POTUS in 2016.

Not even one with several combat deployments under his belt?
