Because they didn't grow conservative with age, they grew conservative with money. And millennials have had their ability to gain wealth screwed by over a decade of stagnant wages and impossible house prices.
Good point. I wonder if that will buck the trend of folk becoming more right wing with age all over the western world? If so could be very significant.

Well you've got to assume that they'll get the property eventually, simply through inheriting it.
Possibly, but with boomers living longer and more expensive lives many will be doing equity release and more and more property will be in the hands of banks. I expect we'll have another couple of decades of inheritance but a lot of gen X will not have adequate pension provision and equity release will become the standard way to pay for old age. God knows what awaits generations after that that have neither property or pension.

I can only speak from the UK perspective but that graphic showing younger people now bucking the trend of getting more conservative as they get older is not surprising in the slightest.

In the past there was an old saying in politics that the conservatives were the 'natural party of government' because the UK was a small c-conservative nation inherently resistant to major change. And this is best represented by the huge support of the Monarchy because they also represent an ode to centuries old tradition which never changes even as everything else might.

The idea of young people in the past becoming more conservative was reliant on the ability for them to reach a point of prosperity (income, owning a home, being able to afford to raise a family). In other words once they "got theirs" they were content to maintaining their status. And conservatism presented the best form of politics because in theory being a party promising no major change means being the party of no chaos. It's true that not all change is good. The 1930s showed how major change can be a force for horrific things to follow. But in the 1970s and 80s the conservatives were successful in saying any more change (meaning additions) to the social welfare state through the proposals of the day were chaos waiting to happen. And instead we got an era of reductions aimed at strengthening market forces. The long term legacy of this has not been generous.

Today younger people are not seeing the same level of prosperity of past generations. They're not seeing a pathway to get there. And instead they get criticised as being 'snowflakes' for talking about it. You can't mock these people for everything wrong in society and then expect them to support you.

Apparently no reporter attended let alone covered Trump's New Year's Eve speech at his bunker in Florida. A few clips taken on cell phones showed him droning on about the airline industry. Rudy, idiot son #1 Eric and the pillow guy were the A names on the guest list. Slowly sliding into irrelevancy. What a shame.

Trump is still holding some cards. It would be folly to write him off as 'finished' just yet.
