US Politics Thread

We've just had 4 years of the democrats wasting time and energy on the witch hunt against trump (which seems to have backfired somewhat), followed by the unedifying spectacle of the partisan pardons of their cronies.
I'm not sure trump bears sole responsibility for damage to the legal system - albeit he was lucky to evade it.

There was previously a convention that political opponents didn't settle scores through the justice system. That went out of the window when Trump's prosecution happened.

The trouble is that Trump's main prosecution wasn't just politically motivated revenge. The lunatic whipped up a mob to kill his VP, the Speakers and probably half of congress.

Trump told us he would pursue vengeance against his opponents so you can hardly blame them for preemptive pardons.

If you want to see a federal Republic where political corruption and the judiciary is abused for score settling, take a look at Brazil.

Lula Silva was sent to prison and barred from office, before it was overturned and he regained the presidency.

In Trump's America (what he wants to happen), there wouldn't be an appeals process for his opponents.

Just clarify - SCOTUS said the President couldn't be held criminally responsible for official acts as President, but they didn't say those acts could not be legally challenged (such as any acts that may be unconstitutional). At least, I hope they didn't say that - as otherwise he could by executive order abolish SCOTUS.
The latitude of the “verdict” was immediately taken as very very broad.

In all seriousness, the original idea was, I believe, that a president couldn’t be prosecuted for decisions he made “as President” so that he could do whatever was necessary to protect the United States. I believe that idea has been considerably broadened, at least in the eyes of right wing cultists, to enable him as much latitude as necessary.

In addition, any challenges to his unfettered power will have to work their way through the courts, ending up with a decision by a strongly right wing 6-3 SCOTUS, while his decisions are enforced.

I hate to say it, but I’m not sure anyone knows where the walls of the box are, but I’m sure they will be tested numerous times over the next 4 years.

The next 4 years are going to be so much more entertaining (US- politically) than the last 4.

Biden was so fucking boring.

No, your position is corrupt and fascistic. Your excuse that legal bills are expensive so we just should pardon people accused of crimes only seems to apply to people on the Democratic side of politics rather than the numerous cases brought against Republicans. Not to mention the poor working classes who you have suspiciously never argued should be preemptively pardoned in case a corrupt legal process unfairly attacks them.

Which means your opinion is worthless because it's not based on principles but personality. Changing your morals based on who is stood in front of you is cowardice and I'm not going to pretend it has any merit at all in any form of argument.
Wow, you put A LOT of words and suppositions in my mouth and mind, all “supported” by complete bullshit.

Corrupt, fascistic, without principle, immoral, meritless and a coward?

Some people might believe that to be a rather serious, and heinous, personal attack, but, hey, it’s all shits and giggles until someone gets hurt, amirite?

You obviously missed this reassuring piece from Biden:

"The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that they engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense."

Nothing to see here. None of those involved committed any crimes honest. It's all because the republicans will weaponise the judiciary - something the democrats would never do obviously.
The absolute false equivalency is eyewateringly pathetic.

These are people who have literally been NAMED as on the enemies list! Liz Cheney…think about that for a second.

You guys crack me up!

All sounds so “just,” with the exception that when a government, with an untold number of top lawyers and the worlds deepest pockets, targets an individual, it can literally bankrupt almost any normal person trying to defend themselves against the most ridiculous targets…as noted.

In this instance, your position is naive and your 115 comparison is ludicrous.
Only if there was an example of someone who this has happened to...hmmmmm...

Are the three non-Trump justices well enough to last four years?

You can't say Trump isn't a doer.

He's not fucking about getting his agenda in place.

MSNBC gone full funeral mode.

Faux has turned into a porn channel. Ainsley Earhardt is currently the soggy biscuit.

Accomplished fuck all last time in the grand scheme of things. The blokes a deplorable scumbag but he's surrounded by incompetents.
