I know people have been trying to blame Trump as the proximate cause of several cases of measles breaking out in the U.S..

Here's a new story from the BBC about measles in Europe and Central Asia.

Measles highest in 25 years in Europe, WHO says.​

The number of measles cases in the European region doubled last year to reach the highest level in 25 years, health officials say.

A joint report by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN children's fund, Unicef, said children under the age of five accounted for more than 40% of the cases reported in Europe and central Asia.

The WHO/Unicef joint analysis covering 53 countries said there had been 127,350 measles cases reported in the European region in 2024 - the highest since 1997.

Estimates from 2023 show that only four countries - Hungary, Malta, Portugal and Slovakia - had met the 95% threshold for vaccination to prevent an outbreak, the ECDC said on Tuesday.

Concern has been expressed in the UK, too, over the spread of the disease, as vaccination rates for two doses have fallen below 90%.

If I read that right, 127k cases in Europe/Central Asia - 30k in Romania, 28k in Kazakhstan.

Also the NYT this week reported a county in New Mexico with 55% vaccination of both MMR jabs (again, as far as I could tell).

I'm not sure why you brought Trump into this, it's the RFK et al antivaxxers over the last few years that are a cause.

Two things:
1) Single white guy likely doesn't give a shit about Putin, Danish sovereignty or the jailing of DOJ lawyers (he voted for Trump after all);
2) Single white guy is a "macro credit strategy book at a hedge fund" manager; thus it's likely that his gripe with Trump is about all the tariff bullshit currently ongoing... and Trump 100% said he'd impose tariffs.

Even if I'm wrong about single white guy's voting remorse, my premise remains - Trump promised to do most of the shit he's now doing and as for the rest, promise or no, there were numerous ample warnings that Trump would proceed in this direction. And as a "macro credit strategy book at a hedge fund" manager, single white guy is likely way above average intelligence and education - presumably able to draw valid inferences on future outcomes based on previous events.

So I conclude - single white guy is a fucking kool-aid drinker, and now that the poison begins to seep in, belatedly regrets his choice of beverage. Idiot!

I guess I’m not certain but those aspects didn’t come up save for the possible change in spreads based on the things Trump was trying to do.

I’ll note too that he was pretty upfront that he messed up. He realizes he screwed up. That’s better than grimly defending his decision despite all of the evidence.

I find it shocking how hardworking intelligent people with high level technical jobs can be so politically naive.

Federal judges continue to call out the administration.
Yesterday one judge compared the administration to the Queen of Hearts saying “Off with their heads” when sacking thousands of federal workers.
Another, more seriously, said the government (ie DoJ counsel) were lying and submitting false documentation to the court in an unfair dismissal suit.
The more the administration fuck with federal judges, the more likely they are to lose when they finally get a case before SCOTUS.
In one case, the gov side admitted they had acted unlawfully but said that was because they thought the constitution was wrong! Just a way to get to SCOTUS double quick. Furthermore, they need SCOTUS to overturn a century of precident to prove that statutory protections of certain civil servants are not valid.
