Tesla are screwed 6-ways from Sunday.

The company is led by Musk - who is now, clearly, far right wing; how many far right-leaning people give a shit about climate change and would be motivated to purchase an electric vehicle? The dislike for Muck among potential purchasers of Tesla is massive - sales are plummeting.

Then, there's the Tesla technology for automated driving - which is shit. It's based on cameras only - and cameras can't see through fog, or very bright lights or other conditions - making the AI using this input prone to error.

Virtually every other electric vehicle with assisted/automated driving technology uses lidar (similar to radar but uses light waves instead of sound waves) coupled with cameras to provide much better input to the AI, resulting in far safer performance.

Then there's the Tesla Cybertruck; it's a Cyberfuck-up. Big time! Glued in panels that fall off. Windshield wiper motor failures. Fingerprints and smudges on the exterior of the car making it difficult to maintain a clean appearance. Which are all on top of the problems mentioned above.

Finally, Tesla's Robotaxi pilot rollout in Austin Texas was a huge failure - because their automatic driving hardware (no lidar) and software are not up to the task.
I was watching this video earlier, not specifically about Tesla, about the number of failing companies buying up massive amounts of crypto as a way to boost their stock prices, with investors, for some reason being willing to pay well over the odds for shares in a company rather than directly buying Bitcoin themselves.

But yeah, it reminds me a lot of Tesla, whose share price seems to bear little relation to the success or otherwise of the company. Anyway, what could possibly go wrong? I'm sure it won't cause yet another global financial crash or anything.

Bet the WC organisers are worried about ticket sales next year too.
I think it’s a little different with national teams e.g. Guatemala vs US in the Gold Cup semis a few days ago was half Guatemalan fans and they were amazing. But between now and then who knows what changes here politically or economically plus with the expansion of the number of teams in the WC — maybe that’s dilutive instead of additive. I am questioning whether or not I care enough to go to any WC matches. I haven’t seen City this trip since they’ve been out east and I’m moving but summer humidity and/or heat outside the Pacific Coast either is consistently or can be awfully oppressive in any summer. In 94 though we did a good job filling stadiums FWIW. Let’s put it this way — there’s probably more uncertainty about how things will go in a year than there would be in the past which is ironic given football has a greater following here now among Americans than ever.

The number of tickets sold will be directionally proportional to their cost.

If El Salvador qualify, they can get a free flight home, so it’s not all bad!

The excellent David Allen Green on why the recent Supreme court ruling on injunctions effectively ends the rule of law in the US.

The lower courts are fighting back allowing some of these actions to be converted to class actions across several states which SCOTUS said could result in nationwide injunctions.
It is imperative that these actions succeed otherwise we have an executive with no limit to its power. Certain members of SCOTUS understand this, but others are Maga handing Trump the initiative.

Hello folks. It is I, your favorite President.

If it's Wednesday, tariffs are on and support for Ukraine is on! Or is it tariffs are off and support for Ukraine is off?

Well, at any rate, it's all Biden's fault!
