US Presidential Election, Nov 5th 2024

Question . If it is the six or seven swing states that decide the election why do the other states need to vote ?
Good question. This time around everyone votes for their house member. Every two years about 1/3 of the Senate are up for reelection. I said in a previous post that’s another important issue tonight.

I live in New Jersey and I voted for President, my house district and NJ is electing a new senator. The previous one was involved in a play for pay scandal and got kicked out-go figure. However the state of NJ is heavily skews Democrat due to a few large urban centers so if the Democrats nominated Pol Pot for the seat, he would win.

Sometimes other types of things are on the ballot like should the state legalise weed or gambling. Stuff like that

You also have local election on the same ballot such as school board members or county commissioners of even state wide elections like governor.

I have been told by my wife that I am "not allowed to jinx it like you did in 2016" so therefore, I shall offer no predictions :).

As I copied from elsewhere, I am nauseously optimistic. I am heartened to see Harris' rallies filled to the brim with huge lines waiting to get in while Trump's are half-full.

I was concerned about her ability to organis(z)e and manage a campaign (as I've mentioned before, I have a few friends who worked on her Presidential and Senate campaigns who said she isn't the best manager) but she and her team have done a masterful job under the circumstances here.
i think she has done a brilliant job , i am sure that there were plans in place given joes age but she still had to run with it in a short time she couldnt have done anymore

Thank you

At what time UK time will we get an inkling of how it is going to turn out?
08:00 GMT tomorrow

But I can give you a preview:

It will become abundantly clear Harris will very likely win more than 270 Electoral College votes (the threshold to win the election, even with some states still receiving and counting votes well after today) around 23:00 GMT, but by then Trump and his cronies will have already begun declaring the election rigged, claiming—without credible evidence—that there was widespread fraud orchestrated by the “cheating Democrats”, and will refuse to concede.

That will begin the weeks long process of Republican governors and state/local officials of several swing states either attempting to resist intense pressure from the MAGA camp to help Trump or executing a preplanned operation to help Trump, with hundreds of lawsuits filed from both sides regarding election practices and counts (on top of the ones already filed prior to the election, mostly by Republicans to setup the “rigged election” narrative).

Tell you what I wouldn’t stay up if I were you. What I would do is go to bed early, wake up at 400-500 and watch from there.

Swing states might not be called before 1100 pm east coast time and that 400 am in England…certainly not the key ones out west like NV and AZ.

IMHO 2300 GMT is too early.
