US/UK launch strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen

It’s possible to blame Iran and the Russians and acknowledge that it’s exactly what they want but also think that there is no alternative to responding firmly to aggression from their proxies. What also needs to happen is for prevaricating countries to give their full support to Ukraine to comprehensively defeat Russia which will do more than anything to add some stability to the world once the Russians get rid of the Putin regime.

I'm well off the mark with politics etc, but if people can find a man hid in a cave in the middle of nowhere. Surely it's easy enough to locate Putin and assassinate the fucker, no? The world becomes a better place the moment his heart stops.

The Iranians are in Lebanon and Syria, a lot closer than 5000 miles, though I very much doubt they'd aim at Cyprus at the moment.
Akrotiri is British sovereign territory so an attack there by the Iranians would amount to Iran declaring war on NATO... So indeed very doubtful.

I just realised in my morning blur that I was ridiculously wrong on the distance, it's more like 2000 miles but anyway...

maybe because they are concerned it may draw strikes onto their island and their homes in retaliation?

So we should sit back and do nowt for fear of retaliation? As Burke once wrote, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

The Houthis haven't got 5000 mile range ballistic ICBM's just yet, although some on here would love that it seems.

Stopping their ability to proliferate and strike with such weapons is actually the whole point of the strikes.

any idea why Malta - where ships are flagged that have been attacked - are not joining in? It works like this - you buy a merchant ship you register where it suits you for personal wealth reasons some twats kick off and wherever you are registered does fuck all coz the Yanks will sort it and hopefully bring its woman (us) along again for the ride

I don't think that Malta cares about the ships on their register and they certainly aren't duty bound to protect them. Ships are registered in places like Malta purely for the tax benefits and perhaps to gain advantages that exist for shipping in the Malta legal jurisdiction. I don't know what Malta gets out of that but there will be a reason.

It's fairly similar with the airlines. Many airlines in Europe register aircraft in Ireland because of the corporation tax benefits even though their aircraft are absolutely not based in Ireland. Ryanair is an Irish airline but it absolutely does not base all of its aircraft in Ireland however it certainly lands its income there and enjoys favourable taxation rates. The rich often buy and 'import' their private jets into the Isle of Man register because of exemption from VAT.

Just think of it this way, the NHS is supplied with medical equipment from Asia. Would you rather that the NHS has to pay more for that equipment and accept delays in deliveries because of idiots firing at ships in the Red Sea? No, why wouldn't we just drop a bomb on them instead?
