Just a correction from bb2.0's post who I highly doubt has actually been to SF. Mission is in the city proper, it's a district. Tons to do in SF if you're in to lots of touristy things.

Been three times as my bro has an offcie there....nice try little man.

lmao

Been 3 times and telling everyone about where "all the locals" hang out. If you knew about the Mission District you wouldn't be recommending going around it at night, gonna recommend a walk through the Tenderloin at 3am next? Nice try, fat man.

I had a good time there and to compare it to the Tenderloin is like comparing Fallowfield to Moss Side. Why me giving my views to someone who asked for advice has led to your own jealousy spilling over (again) in an attempt to ruin a thread (again) is beyond me.

The Mission is worse in some areas than the entire Tenderloin district. Jealous? lmao

It just reads like some shite you copied from a travel guide website like "your" champagne tips that you copied and pasted from another website and changed a few words to make it sound like your own.

Fellow Blues - In the process of looking to book my 2010 summer holiday and looking to go to the West Coast of USA! I am just after any advice of where to go, where not to bother and so on!

Im off with my misses and another couple so areas to have a good booze etc are also appreciated. We are currently looking at the usual; LA, San Francisco, Vegas etc but thought i would ask the biggest voice on the net!

Cheers in advance

TGF

was looking to do the exact same thing with my brood.

was looking to start at LA and then drive up to San Fransisco and eventually get to Seattle(by air) or maybe all the way to Canada.

got my rough guide to USA out and started planning last week. this trip wont come cheap, mind. i think it is a trip you have to make if you get the chance to.

We did a good fly-drive a few years back. Flew into San Francisco, spent three days there, then a leisurely drive down the Pacific Coast Highway (some of the most stunning scenery you'll ever see), stopping overnight in places like Carmel (Clint country!). Monterey, San Luis Obispo (nice town) and Santa Monica. Then inland to Lake Tahoe, stayed in a cabin there for three days — absolutely stunning, lots of outdoor activities, walking trails etc and on the Nevada side of Stateline, a mini-Vegas of casinos, clubs etc. Then a day in Yosemite (wish it could have been longer ) before returning to San Fran for the final three days. One of the best holidays I've ever had.
Ps we stayed in the Westin St Francis in Union Square. The Tenderloin is only a few blocks away and one afternoon I walked through it wearing a City shirt. Lots of down and outs and porno clubs and theatres, but nobody bothered me, though I'd be less confident at night.
Went bar hopping in the Mission one night. It was okay, seemed to be lots of converted industrial buildings. Can see how it could be shady in palces, though.
Apart from the usual tourist sports like Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz, just walking around San Francisco is like being on a movie set. It is crammed with hidden gem. If you go, try the hot pastrami sandwich on rye or Siberian black bread from David's Deli, just off Union Square. Amazing

We keep going back! We love it there and usually go end of Sept for a couple of weeks. We did have the debate this year to go somewhere different but....

Pacific Coast Highway is lovely - Motel 6 all reasonable. Las Vegas is great fun but we usually only do three days as you then need to go somewhere quiet to lie down. Worth chucking some money at that stage though to stay in one of the big hotels on the Strip. Venetian is a bit posh but with a great Italian in the Grande Canal Shoppes (yes that is how they spell it) - check the prices mid week as it's considerably cheaper.

We've used Santa Barbara as a base the last couple of years and rented a condo via VRBO.com. We're golfers though and it's great to have a base. SB is lovely - nice shops and restaurants and an English bar to watch the games.

Monterey Bay is nice - great restaurant there called the Sardine Factory. Hearst Castle is a messy hotch potch full of expensive stuff from Europe and the pools are very decadent. Yosemite's worth a detour as well.

We've just booked our flights to go again this Sept - some good deals on Skyscanner.

Already counting down the days.........

come to san Fran, plenty to do, great climate that time of year. Then do the Portland game, if that's gonna be on the tour.

Hearst Castle is amazing! The real life Citizen Cane and his house was mad. This and Yosemite are musts if you're doing California. Also, the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. The maddest motel in the world, frequented by celebs. All the rooms are themed - caveman, brothel etc. Have to book early though

Cheers for the advice - flights now booked! Fly into LA then do some travelling about for 2 and 1/2 weeks! Flying via toronto with a 9 hour stop over. How far away is niagra falls?
