UWCL Qualifying tournament - City OUT - lost 1-0 to Real Madrid

I totally get why playing overseas is a more appealing option than playing with us. But it still stands that it's mainly us that are seeing our best players make that move. I thought Miedema was nailed on to leave Arsenal with Barcelona interested but they've somehow convinced her to stay.
I don't think there's much negative media about our women's team tbh, I think we're looking for someone else to blame here when maybe we need to look at how we're running the operation. For starters, I don't imagine Taylor will be in the running for another job when he leaves City. Whereas Chelsea and Arsenal both have highly respected women's coaches.
Not in a rush to blame anyone really. The players have looked after themselves and we don’t have enough match going fans to gain a competitive advantage:

A lot of peole who criticised City on here don’t go to the games: I’m just stating the facts:

We’ve got a world class facility at the Miniihad but you try to make out that City don’t care. We have a track record of promoting from within. That’s a million miles from saying we don’t invest in the women’s game.

Maybe big name players at Arsenal
And Chelsea like to stay in London. Who knows.

Are you there week in week out supporting the Women’s team. I’ve met the diehards when I’ve been to home games and cup finals and take my hat of too then. If that includes you you have my respect:

Yeah, 'cos it's not 1970 any more and ticket sales don't drive the finances on either side of the game. This is an absolute nonsense argument.

It's almost like investing in the women's team requires consistent investment and improvement across the board, rather than just a big one-off spend on facilities (facilities which, arguably, primarily benefit other parts of the club). Nobody is saying we don't invest at all in the women's game, people are quite reasonably pointing out we don't invest as much as we could, or as much as we need to compete properly.

You're stating opinions not facts. Fair enough if you don't want to criticise City but these aren't exactly convincing arguments.

Or freeloaders could turn up and go to more games rather than just whingeing on here.

Shock horror, some people on Bluemoon go to games, have season tickets, and still find time to write more coherent arguments than yours. Again: not a convincing argument.

The money doesn't come into the women's game because those businesses that sponsor and support the men's game see what the diehards who go to the women's game see - a sport that has some similarities but an enormous chasm in athletic ability and football technique. It might change over the coming seasons but I think the England Women's achievement at the Euros will not have as great an effect on attendance as some folk suggested the day after the final.

Your innovative argument wad that Sheikh Mansour and the Board should pay for your entertainment.

Yeah, I guess it is naive to suggest that the women's team should be properly funded by its parent company, when we could instead focus on a tickets sales-only growth strategy that was outdated when Peter Swales was still chairman.

I guess there's a degree of truth that it is my entertainment I'm talking about (and if they want to pay for my season ticket, I'll consider it) but it's my club I'm talking about. Cash injections are an option, and hardly a wild one given the scale, but if they're serious there's still other avenues they can focus on. We have one of the best commercial departments in the sport apparently, put them to work. We know how much further the money goes in the women's game.

Anyway, tell us more about how 'freeloaders' are the problem. I'm sure we'll all learn something there.

This isn't the argument people are making though. We're not using the men's game as the benchmark here when discussing money/investment. We're comparing our performance against other women's teams. Teams who are holding on to their best players and employing better coaches. It's ok to question what's going on at city as something seems off.

I couldn't put my finger on what is 'off' - Pep says he tells the top brass who he wants and if they are available and then they make a move. I suppose the same applies with GT, I don't know, but TotO made the point about London being a bigger attraction than most provincial women's teams. The two coaches that seem to be the talked about most are CFC and the Arse, but MCFC won more than the Arse last season. We've lost a couple of decent players - Stanway, Bronze and Weir. Lucy is knockin on a bit, and CW and GS, in the time they were here didn't move onto the level I expected. It might be a coaching thing, I don't know. I was a bit browned off last season at the pace we played and prayed they got it out to Hemp so that a bit of dynamism was injected into an attack. I think we have recruited well, and thought we might turn over Real this time. It's gonna be an end of season thing to see how 'off' we are. I think also we are gonna be mighty unlucky if we have the injury list we had last season. We might be able to field players in their rightful positions. I'm pretty positive, but I've been slightly more positive than negative ever since Bobby Johnstone got his goal in '56!
