How good is he?

Unfortunately he is much, much better than Moyes. I can see a lot of United players leaving though as he doesn't take shit and I think Rooney might be the first Diva to get the boot.

Fairplay, heard about his tough manager style, and have seen his Bayern side of old, just don't know enough about him.

We're going to be in for a treat with this one. Already looking forward to the after match interviews and press conferences, this guy is bat shit crazy.
Would never say this to a rag but i'm gutted he's going to manage them. He's a genius. A mad genius, but a genius nonetheless. Was my first choice to replace Mark Hughes all those years ago.
I think he'll sort them out, he's exactly what they need right now, but I also think there'll be a few hiccups along the way, probably involving bust-ups with "star" players.

Must confess that I have wanted Van Gaal at City in the past but can't remember precisely when. However, I am not gutted that he is going to the Rags. He will likely have some success there and will make them much better to watch but the chances of a manager going there and having some success are fairly high anyway. The chances of LVG's tenure there ending in tears are also quite high. I have some Dutch colleagues who really are not fans of the Schoolteacher.

The days of me wanting LVG at City are long gone so I am glad that they have not snagged one of the guys that I would like to see takeover at City when Pellers chooses to move on (Pep, Klopp, de Boer...).

Even a genius needs something to work with.

I agree ... I also don't think it's going to be next season they challenge for the title. Not unless they really do have a 10/10 transfer window. There's just too much dross at United that needs replacing, especially for them to become a Van Gaal team.

Indeed.
And I reckon Van Gaal's 'new broom sweeps clean' approach of dispensing with the services of the 'class of '94' will cause a lot of infighting and ill-feeling as well.
One of the reasons Pisscan called it a day was a lack of financial backing - who's to say it will be any different this time around?
And which decent players will want to pitch up and play Europa League on a Thursday night?
I don't care how good a gaffer he is - the current rag team simply are nowhere near top four standard at present.

This is not good for us.

Nonsense. People said the same thing about Mourinho last summer and look at how that's ended for Mou. He had less work to do on the Chelsea squad than the rags have to do on their squad this summer. Van Gaal will be good for United because he's a top manager, but they will still be a long way from challenging us. We're pretty much the finished article as far as the PL is concerned. They are a rebuilding job waiting to happen.

Same here.
