I think he'll sort them out, he's exactly what they need right now, but I also think there'll be a few hiccups along the way, probably involving bust-ups with "star" players.
I agree ... I also don't think it's going to be next season they challenge for the title. Not unless they really do have a 10/10 transfer window. There's just too much dross at United that needs replacing, especially for them to become a Van Gaal team.
No, they won't challenge, but should be top 4 next season, particularly if they miss out on qualifying for the Europa League this season. The question is who misses out?

I'd expect us to strengthen the defence (Mangala? Sagna? Cole?) and midfield (Fernando?) and therefore push on and if not win it, at least challenge again. Chelsea will buy at least one top striker and will be our main competitors, I believe. That leaves Liverpool, who will need to cope with the demands of competing in more than one competition, and will subsequently need to strengthen the squad; has Rodgers ever had reasonable amounts of money to spend? How will he fare? And Arsenal; they also need to strengthen, if just to keep up, but Wenger's got a knack of getting top 4 by hook or by crook. However, will he still be there come next May, or even this August?

Liverpool will be the ones to miss out for me.

Re: Van Gaal New Rags Boss

I'm happy with Pell and whatever the rags do, we will do more of regarding team strengthening. I can see Pell being here for a very long time, Van Gaal will be gone after one season of frustration and backstabbing at the swamp. We have nothing to fear from any team or manager, the rest of the PL have lots to fear about both at City.. !

This is not good for us.

Nonsense. People said the same thing about Mourinho last summer and look at how that's ended for Mou. He had less work to do on the Chelsea squad than the rags have to do on their squad this summer. Van Gaal will be good for United because he's a top manager, but they will still be a long way from challenging us. We're pretty much the finished article as far as the PL is concerned. They are a rebuilding job waiting to happen.

We'll see billy...
There is no way on this God's earth that next season they are going to perform anywhere near as poorly as they have this season.
This season was a perfect storm of events that came together just right. It couldn't have been more perfect if we had designed it.
Van Gaal is top class and it will show.

Re: Van Gaal New Rags Boss

Some right bottlers on here.

I wouldn't swap Pellegrini for Van Gaal, and out of their entire squad of 25 there's probably about 5 players that would get into ours or Chelsea's.

Van Gall will do what Moyes did. Walk in thinking he's got a plan, not do what the top players want him to, get immediately turfed out.

If they would have brought in a Guardiola type, I'd be worried. They've bought in a mad disciplinarian who is going to try to tell United's players how to suck eggs then woman when they don't do it his way

I don't see anyone on here saying we should swop Pellegrini for Van Gaal so everyone is with you on that score.
What some are saying is that Van Gall is a major upgrade on Moyes (which isn't difficult I agree) which he most certainly is.
The rags business model is built upon and suited to a 'mad disciplinarian'/ control freak type of manager.
It maybe not the way that we and some other clubs want to run their operation but it doesn't make it wrong by default.
Van Gaal has an excellent track record at big clubs. More often than not he delivers. If he does get this mythical £150m 'war chest'
they keep harping on about (and he must have been given some assurances before he signed) he will spend it wisely and they will improve
from where they are now to a position in the top 4.
Nothing more. Nothing less.

Re: Van Gaal New Rags Boss

I can see it being tempestuous, to say the least. Gollum caved in to every demand Shrek made, even down to player ins and outs. This is not going to sit pretty on Vag's shoulders. He will make it clear from the off that he and he alone is in charge.

Expect the seeds of discontent to start flowering in early September.

Even a genius needs something to work with.

Agreed. You cannot make chicken salad out of chicken shit.......
