VAR - 2020/21

Ugh. It’s just horribly implemented. It should be easy in a situation like the rags peno. Start with is he onside and take it from there

Absolutely

I would say that he looked offside but if not it’s a Pen yes it’s soft and yes he dived but we have seen them given and in any case Maguire is dragged back

Yeah lets forget VAR refusing to even look at the fact he was offside.

VAR or lack of it allowed the ref to possibly give them a penalty there!
What?? The ref awarded them a pen in actual play. No VAR in place, they get a penalty.

VAR has its faults and yes it was offside so I have no idea why they bothered checking the dive, but without it United likely take the lead then!

It's not VAR that's the issue.

The game needs a reboot when it comes to penalties. We need to get away from 'there was contact' and shift towards 'was it a foul'. A foul should require significant force. The game would be much better if penalties like ours last night and Salah's last week weren't penalties. The whole 'contact' issue just validates and encourages dives. Stick the word force in there and it solves a lot of the 'modern' penalty issues as described by Mourinho last night. Tribalism doesn't help either.

Why didnt VAR see that Maguire was offside so no need to even look at the tackle again?
Id say VAR did see it. Was obvious to everyone bar The corrupt officials who you want leaving to referee the game without VAR keeping them in check....

Anyway without VAR today, the Rags get a corrupt penalty and likely win the game. Thankfully due to VAR that didnt happen!!

Sorry but VAR or the officials sat doing that job failed to do it correctly so no, it didn't do its job yet again but rather gave the ref every opportunity to stick to his decision and give the rags a penalty.

Thankfully he didn't but he could have done and yet again a result would have been fixed because of its inaccurate use.

I've no issue with VAR so long as its used consistently and we can hear the conversations.

Completely agree, Mike Riley really needs to explain this because it looks corrupt as f#ck
