Var debate 2019/20

Carries on inside the box and therefore penalty.
But it doesn’t, does it. The defender releases his grip before they get into the box, Martial’s still off balance and falls as a result of that pulling when he’s inside the box but the foul was outside the box.

What is the VAR official remit regarding reviewing penalty decisions ?
To correct “clear and obvious errors with a high bar”. The bar is quite obviously too fucking high and the media are starting to moan about it now.

You and I both believe the refs have made clear and obvious errors with the two non penalties. But as 1 or 2 refs in 10 may not have given them as a pen then var doesn’t intervene as the decision is subjective.

It’s a completely bollocks rule but it’s not only effected us.

VAR was supposed to stop any confusion over the awarding of offsides, goals, penalties and any other potential game changing moments. It has actually achieved the exact opposite.

In making it more confusing, they have actually made it easier to cheat, and appear to have taken full advantage.

Var isn’t intervening on ANY penalties.
To be fair, I think @Florida Blue ’s point was that the current VAR implementation could be completely blind to which club the decision has been made (or not made) against (or for), but if we agree that Liverpool are still refereed differently to the rest of the clubs in the league (as in they are advantaged more regularly than other clubs), the “blind” implementation of VAR, which to date has been to not overturn “subjective” in/decisions by referees, means that Liverpool still benefits from the current implementation of VAR, regardless if there is no intended bias (or bias at all).

He’s two yards inside and still pulling his arm and pressing down on his shoulder. You’re taking the piss now.

If you’re going to be this one eyed then don’t bother replying because it’s like arguing with a religious fanatic that claims dinosaurs didn’t exist.

Did any see Fiorentina Napoli game ?? Penalty for Napoli's 2nd goal was the most worst decision I have seen in recent times despite VAR being around

Right, yes, agreed. Thanks for the explainer.

What are you talking about, so why are they talking to the VAR then? They have NOT yet reveresed a decision but VAR are looking at them , that's why they put the decision on the board for the Silva/Kane one.

We just haven't hot the the "high bar of intervention" which obvious means a leg breaker or a punch thrown.

The problem is the myopia of fans. We’ve had plenty say Martial, Rashford, Kane and Aspa aren’t penalties but we know full well that if they were City players, the same posters would be saying they were nailed on penalties.
I've not seen the others but I didn't think Kane's was, either at full speed or after review, but if there is doubt they do have the option for the referee on field to review it. In Silva and Rodri's cases I think the referee gives both, the both look clear fouls on replay (in Silva's case live I thought he'd dived though), in Kane's I'm still not sure for what exactly.

I’m in a what’s app group of lads I play 5 a side with. About 15 of us in it and it was roughly a 3:1 split calling penalty yesterday on Kane.

The Aspa one was everyone saying penalty, same for Silva. The United one’s was everyone apart from two Liverpool fans.

I’m still convinced Kane’s was a penalty, he dives into Kane’s legs to stop him. If it was against Aguero I don’t imagine many on here would argue it’s not a pen.
