Var debate 2019/20

One simple way of improving it would be to introduce a 2 minute time limit for any VAR decision to be made.

Football governance hasn't the balls to admit that another sport got it right. They live in a world where nobody can tell them anything. As long as they are running, or shall I say ruining, the show, the farce will continue. PiGMOL are just far too concerned with referees' reputations. Referees' reputations, as far as I'm concerned, are in tatters. The last straw was Mason booking Eddie for timewasting!

One BIG difference between both is the ability to stop the clock - would be a massive change to one of the fundamentals of the game

There hasn't been a game at The Etihad this season that hasn't left me fuming about the total indifference referees have shown to blatant time wasting by oppo goalies. Add in the farce of the added time board, time spent on scrutinising VARce referrals and it just doesn't add up to two 45 min halves. Refs need to be divested of the responsibility of being the 'sole arbiters of time'! They simply can't tell the time on their Mickey Mouse watches.

Couldn't agree more. I have always suggested that the referee should be give a third card and when he spots timewasting he should wave this Blue card in the air, notifying the 4 th official of +30 seconds.

Twattenberg now saying that maybe Aurier should have been sent off too. Utter nonsense, maybe the pitch should have been red carded as that also contributed to the incident. Son was a yellow nothing more until VAR got involved (imho).

I agree mate. It's a contact sport and unfortunately a few times a season these types of injuries occur. The responsibilty for referees is to keep the game safe and punish challenges that genuinely endanger players, two footed tackles, ones that go over the top of the ball etc. Son's challenge was a foul and yellow card, nothing more. Anything that happened afterwards was incredibly unfortunate.

As for saying Aurier could have faced a red card... that's nonsense. He'd commited to his challenge just after Gomes's stud had been caught in the ground, there's nothing he could have done to avoid contact.

I feel really sorry for Gomes but the officiating in the aftermath and subsequent comments from VAR/Premier league have been abysmal.
