VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24 | PL clubs to vote on whether to scrap VAR (pg413)

Would you want VAR scrapped?

1. Disband (unlikely) or restructure PGMOL.
2. Bring in the semi-automated offside technology used by FIFA and UEFA.
3. Recruit specialist VAR officials, preferably retired referees from other countries. UEFA and FIFA have the right idea - they never use on-field officials and VAR officials from the same country.

Why can't PGMOL get VAR right? Because it's Bent

Simply just change the result or give the goal after the game on review ? they can change red cards given out to players, So why not give a goal and change the result to 2.2

There's plenty of times I can recall watching a game where there's a close offside call and it's checked within seconds without any lines being drawn and I've thought to myself there's no way they could've checked it that quickly. Makes you wonder how many of those were incorrect decisions that they couldn't bother checking.

I feel like blaming the system lets the real idiots off the hook. VAR is there for replays and the replays showed the goal was clearly offside.

A normal human sees that and awards the goal and this results in the system correcting the linesman’s incorrect flag.

You could genuinely see it was onside from a single cross field replay. These people need to be made more responsible for these shocking errors.

I’m not a fan of VAR but it has been effective in the hands of the competent, so I’d get rid of PiGMOL first

Don’t get me wrong, the officiating problems we have are far more to do with personnel than technology. The whole thing needs an overhaul. Just think VAR has generally made the game worse rather than better though.

I personally think this is worse. It's an absolute basic onside, no interpretation of any new rules needed, it's onside.
If the dippers and rags are on the wrong end of a few more of these shockers the red media might do something about these useless idiots who are ruining the game and make them accountable, but the premier league should be all over this as it’s ruining their product

I agree

There’s nothing to consider - no ‘is he interfering, has a defender took a touch’ etc

The only thing they needed to do was draw a line which would have showed him to be comfortably onside

We’ve seen occasions where there was no evidence of VAR checking goals for offside 2 at Anfield I can think off
Just get rid of VAR it was better without for so many reasons
We also need an independent time keeper stopping the clock when the ball is dead we saw today 6 mins at Wolves a game stopped constantly in second half and the same at Spurs with hardly any

Agreed. The other incorrect VAR decisions have been subjective to some degree. But I think the Rashford offside goal is probably the second or third worst. It was say a 90% obviously wrong. Also recall Brighton should have had a couple of penalties last season against spurs that were 90% obvious.

Just thought. Spurs seem to benefit from a lot of VAR errors. Remember champions quarter final in 2019.
