VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Horse shit.

As soon as they were mic'd up they refereed differently.

Rewatch the City v Chelsea game at the Etihad when Taylor refused to send off David Luis and tell me that game was 100% on field referee.

Obvious handball not given at the weekend after scrutiny, obvious red card tonight not given. VAR just isn’t working and needs retiring and rethinking

I think the video assistant replay works fine, we all saw it. The problem is PGMOL & how they apply the laws of the game. All they are thinking is what they’ll say in the studio, that’s what Webb built his whole career on.

The problem isn't how the PGMOL apply the laws of the game, it's how they apply the laws of the game differently from one game to the next, often in the same game for opposing teams and are completely unapologetic about it.

Absolutely & the last time I can remember we had a red card against us in the prem for a bad tackle was the stat padding 93rd minute lunge from Burnley 1st game of last season.

It’s clear teams are allowed to leave one on City & it’s a free hit.

Take away VAR and you are left with the same result - obviously refs are not working and would need rethinking ? Every official deemed that accidental with the best view possible. How is that a VAR problem when they are literally giving the officials a closer look on replay ?

Me personally would have liked to see a Red, certainly at least a yellow despite that being accidental or not.

VAR still useless for anything other than offsides and even then it ruins the game. Nothing to see here.

Useless for offsides too.

Even the SAOT has a margin of error, and the wankers in charge still have to agree with the tech and press a button. They can still lie about the tech 'malfunctioning' and there is zero scrutiny or independent oversight.

You've convinced me. Fuck it off completely please.

Get rid. Might as well have refs making mistakes in real time rather than some gimp in a caravan looking at the same repeat 15 times.

Goal line tech, on/offside , fine.
The rest just leave it alone
Goal Line Tech isn't VAR its an automatic system that has worked brilliantly

offside isn't fine as its using laboratory conditions Lino got it right most of the time aside from an occasional howler Offside is to prevent goal-hanging was never meant to measure to the mm and also with flawed process of choosing the frame

Im more saying to take any decisions that arent black and and white away from incompetents.
And yes agree offsides are flawed anyway because the tech aint up to scratch.

Its a sad state of affairs for the game when the law makers are looking to rule out a goal everytime its scored.
The inter goal the other night would have been given but some gimp had his lines out and found a toe nail offside.
Right or wrong, spirit of the game is questioned
