VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Yesterday’s Incidents were so odd and in relation to the offside, if you’ve seen the relevant images, it is really difficult to conclude anything other than the wrong images were shown to us to ‘prove’ Guimaraes was onside. Dias wasn’t in the air and the line was incorrectly drawn from part of his arm and not his armpit as per the laws of the game.
The "kick-point" KP termed used to determine the point at which an on / off decision is determined is suggested by the Semi Automatic Offside Technology SAOT This is shown to the VAR team who determine if this is accurate hence the term "semi"
So, the incident on Saturday can be attributed to either:
The software failed by suggesting a KP which was after the actual KP and this wasn't challenged by VAR team, didn't do their job, and the player was onside
or
The software suggested the correct KP ( player offside ) but it wasn't accepted by the VAR team so they intervened and chose one later showing the player onside
or
From the evidence of the images being different than what is normally shown from SAOT I believe the technology failure and then they choose the wrong KP a total cock-up

"Just to clarify on the image showed publicly, VAR dont use the image this is later generated once the decision is made

Link to PL SAOT explanation

In the Premier League this season, offside calls have been adjudged to be 100 per cent correct.

It will enhance the speed and efficiency of the process. The expected average reduction of decision time in close offside calls with SAOT is approximately 30 seconds"

Once the decision is made – a decision visual will be sent to broadcast, giant screens in stadiums and shared on the @PLMatchCentre X account.
This will feature a 3D virtual replay of the relevant players identifiable by each team’s kit.

An offside decision will be shown with a red line and onside with a green line. A white vertical wall will represent the offside line, with a blue "pulse" on the defender’s relevant body part.

When an attacker is offside, the part of their body which is offside will appear through the white wall and be outlined in red.

The final image in the virtual replay will be on an angle, off-centre, to provide a clear view of the attacker and defender involved in the offside review and the "pulse" will no longer be displayed.

Most offside decisions will be quicker, but VAR will still have the option to draw crosshairs as a back-up to the SAOT system if required.

This process may be necessary in "edge cases" where several players block the view of the ball or other players for the system’s cameras. Surely not the case on Saturday

PiGMOL / PL need to explain how VAR came to the wrong decision on Saturday

Oh FFS. The bbfuckin'c are attempting, online, to explain why Semi Automated cheating isn't all what we thought it would be but it's still right........

"Guimares was just ahead of Dias but within the tolerance level'

So basically he was offside but he wasn't.

Elsewhere they state "in every other competition, offside is given to the millimetre, in the Premier League there is a 5cm grace which is effectively the width if the green line" (shows photoshop attempt the 3yr old child did 8 minutes after the restart, the one where Dias is jumping)
"Guimares was ahead of Dias but within the tolerance level"

They are saying we have the worlds best technology that can measure to a millimetre but they alter it.

When was this 5cm rule enacted, and why doesn’t anybody else know? We’ve been told, like you say, that offside isn’t subjective, but now it is.

What a farce, once again finding a new law to allow for obvious cheating.

It’s the cameras that not good enough and that 5cm can be which ever way they want to manipulate it! It’s why some look offside when given in and visa a versa

The cameras are good enough. The article clearly stated that every other competition measure to the millimetre. It is the PL and Pigmob that insert a 5cm leeway.

The bbc even state Guemaris was offside but because he was within the 5cm tolerance he ergh wasn't offside.

It is a multi million business being run by clowns and conmen.
