VAR (PL introduction 2019)

Yeah, agree completely about the communication. Needs to be like other sports where you see it on the big screen at the ground, and fans at home get to hear what is being said.

Thought it was borderline tonight. Don’t think we’d have been happy if one of our players was red carded for that. It was a bit reckless, but he wasn’t off the ground. Still think it was just about the right call.

Delph’s reds were less red than that one

The ref has to go and view it himself on a screen with the crowd seeing the same pictures and all communication between him and the VAR, Linesmen, 4th official broadcast to both tv and the crowd.

Total transparency is key but why we feel we dont need the actual ref to change decisions but some shadowy figure in a van i will never know and they bring every bit of flak on themselves.

Im convinced if he looks at that himself on the sidelines he does with his orginal decision but what happened to clear and obvious?

Someone said earlier that all red cards, like goals, are reviewed by VAR so not sure if the “clear and obvious error” rule applies there? Genuinely don’t know though, that might be wrong.

don't you think this is part of the problem? No fucker knows the rules or criteria? The confusion is just untrue.

Who knows but then none of us know what they are doing with it 100%

Yep, it’s clearly flawed in its current implementation. No VAR at Swansea (thankfully) but you have it at Wolves. I do still think it’s the way forward, but it needs a fair bit of work. There were always going to be teething problems, but it’s not been great so far. Think we need to persevere though and it’ll get better.

Agree completely and it isnt difficult for them to get it right in the eyes of the fans.

It just feels as though the very things almost everyone is saying needs to happen they just wont listen or entertain and that is worrying.

I think the major problem is they should have put the investment into trialling it in lower leagues, refining it and getting it better. Instead they chose to trial it in the top flight on TV in full view of the world thus amplifying the teething problems they are having.

We need to implement it properly (so the ref can review it pitchside) and not just have it relayed to him on his earpiece that he made the correct/incorrect decision

Why should the players on lesser pay have to suffer?

Why should the players on lesser pay have to suffer?

Its about money and perception.

In the case of money the lower prize money on offer could be compensated for if a team loses out and if the football authorities had the will to do so.

Perception - the PL ( and other leagues ) have held themselves open to ridicule with say 6 minutes to make a decision. Many many other changes are trialled in lower leagues and minor competitions - like replacing throw ins with kick ins as was trialled in an under 19's World Cup I recall.
