VAR (PL introduction 2019)

just watch it tonite ffs, judge it in a game in this country
just been explained there will be grey areas and the ref has the final say
lets just see

Basically they wont override a shit ref
...... wtf..... they have to protect the idiots in charge and keep this game corrupt..... any complaints? No cos the media is completely dominated

I've not read the whole thread so sorry if this has already been asked, if a player dives and initially gets a penalty which is then overturned by VAR is the player booked and/or do they get a three game ban?
No. The offence is deceiving the match official. If the penalty isn’t actually given, the player cannot have deceived the official so would only get a booking.

Thanks, in that case its use this season could cause some inconsistencies. For example, potentially we could have a man banned for three games after diving and winning a penalty in our league cup semi, yet if an Arsenal or Chelsea players dived for a penalty in the other semi where they are using VAR the worst they'd get is no penalty and a booking for essentially the same offence.

Although they would be different as, in your example, we would have got the penalty and they wouldn’t have. Also, it’s only a 2 game ban not a 3.

The sooner it's introduced the better. A video referee and sin bin would work better and allow the game to move on faster, but we can't carry on having these joke decisions made by referees that are ruining the game.

Over the past couple of weeks, we've had:

1. Alli's dive against Burnley
2. Gray's dive against City
3. Zaha's 5th dive this season, this time against City
4. Non-existent handball against Arsenal for West Brom
5. Soft-penalty against Arsenal followed up by two touch penalty against Forest
6. Joke penalty awarded to Stoke in FA Cup by referee making up for the fact that he ruined the Stoke V Liverpool game

Joke refereeing is ubiquitous and is ruining the game. Diving, the other scourge, is a product of this. Next, we will have teams just playing to win penalties because that's the easiest way to score which is pretty much what Zaha does already.

Problem i see for us is that its bad enough having the likes of Taylor, Mason etc ref our games as we all know their agenda. With Var we could have Taylor and Mason as VAR reffing our games. I can see them being as blind as they are now but also scrutinising anything we do and looking for ways to screw us more.
We have already heard Riley say Zahas dive for the penalty wouldnt have gone to VAR

Sorry 2 game.

The issue would be the dive though wouldn't it? The offence is the same, it's only the outcome that is different.
The only way round that though, would be to say that any dive was punished with a ban, regardless of the outcome. Trouble is, in your scenario, we might get through because of a dive and someone takes a two game ban but the team that’s on the receiving end get nothing. At least in the Arsenal/Chelsea game there is no goal.
Also, what about a dive that gets a free kick on the edge of the box, which results in a goal? No retrospective action there, at all. Ultimately the sanction has to be much worse than the possible reward although, if Zaha dives in the last game of the season and gets a penalty which keeps Palace up, will a 2 game ban stop that? Not only that, but it doesn’t look like to many are getting caught and there doesn’t look to be less diving going on!!

But we would (or might) have scored a goal and they wouldn’t have.

No one offence wouldn’t have happened as no penalty would have been awarded after the intervention of the VAR.
