VAR Thread - 2021/22

In the six months since this thread was opened, 21% of the posts have been about this weekend's game. To me, this indicates that this weekend is something of an outlier, and goes against the norm.

Yes, VAR will always throw up some contentious decisions, but they are becoming less frequent, which is a good thing.

Probably because this weekends failings by referees and VAR producing incorrect decisions that have been so bad and so obvious that it is impossible to ignore them.

If there isn't an outcry following the weekends incorrect decisions, then it is quite obvious that the PL / PiGMOL don't give a fuck about getting decisions right.

The transparency they have in place in Rugby & Cricket where VAR tries to assist the referees & umpires in making the right decision tells me it was introduced for the good of them game.

The shrouded and contradictory way that VAR is used within football tells me it was introduced to manipulate preferred outcomes & results for the good of the 'product'.

The fact the Rags were awarded a penalty after the final whistle by this method tells you what it is here for. BENT!

VAR needs binning but can you imagine how difficult it is for refs and officials nowadays when the game is completely infested with cheat players & practically every player either cheats or feigns injury at every opportunity.
I mean, the game is fucked when players get slagged on tv for not going down.
The problem isn't just var or the refs

22 players cheating, diving and appealing everything - hostile crowds booing, moaning and shouting on every decision - who would be a ref.

In my opinion if there isn't a reaction from PGMOL after those 2 blatantly wrong decisions going in favour of the dippers , then it is clear that they are sticking two fingers up firmly to all football fans, and the explanation of incompetence is totally wrong.

Using VAR correctly should have seen both goals disallowed , but once again either the dippers receive decisions in their favour.

The PL clearly want a competitive league and PiGMOL are imo used to ensure exactly that .

I don't believe that incompetence is the explanation for these incidents, despite all teams suffering from them, because they happen too often in favour of certain teams .
Yes, I agree. It cannot be incompetence because that defies logic. I don't see how we can return to pre VAR because of the incompetence of referees and the worsening behaviour of players. However, as others have said, VAR can be a benefit to the game if used in the right way which requires radical change.
I don't want games decided by bad ref decisions but neither do I want corruption.
1. The ownership of VAR is paramount. It can't be owned by PIGMOL or the PL. There should be a new body set up run by ex refs (including from Europe, e.g Germany). That body works with PIGMOL and PL but not FOR them
2. That body should be funded by the PL clubs, all playing an equal amount. The PL clubs also review how the system is working and how the new body is performing every year at a minimum.
3. There needs to be full transparency over VAR decision making so we can all hear it
4. If an incident needs more than 2 replays or uses more than 30 seconds max then it cannot be clear and obvious. No VAR check should take more than 30 seconds
5. We need to get away from all this "is his elbow offside" and go back to basic common sense as well as advantage being with the attacker. So that would mean if level (i.e no daylight) then onside.
6. VAR screens and audio should be a stipulation for being in the PL.
7. Match Commanders (whatever they are) should have no influence in VAR.
8. Those involved in making VAR decisions should be made to justify their decisions if requested by the clubs or media.
9. No ref going to the monitor.
Those 9 points may be a load of old tripe but surely better than Lee Mason and Riley in charge?

Perhaps VAR should only get involved if the on-field ref' requests it? For example if he's not certain if a foul is inside/outside the box or if a linesman tells him he can't be certain about offside. All subjective incidents should be left entirely to the ref. He decided when VAR gets involved.

Err, if they are becoming 'less frequent' why have last weeks games suddenly added 21% to the thread?

Certainly not me, i'd send off every player who told me to fuck off & also send off the ones who dived.
Fcuk me, we'd be lucky to finish with 2 a side
