VAR thread 2022/23

Just struggling to find the logic. Apologies for being curt. I’ll wrap it round more words next time.
I'm absolutely not saying all of VAR is corrupt. It was clearly brought in with the intentions of solving the problem of dodgy/contentious decisions and incidents where the on field referee missed certain clear and obvious infringements. It's merits I think were miss-sold somewhat in that the technology was not as good as it was claimed to be (limited by 50fps frame rate and limited angles).

HOWEVER, I think that on numerous occasions individuals with nefarious intent have taken advantage of the limitations of the system and used the fact it is shrouded in secrecy to their advantage, either for collective or individual gain and it has effected match results and league position either purposely or incidentally. My 'logic' is that when VAR has these particular 'moments' I can see no other way some of the situations we have all witnessed can be explained. There are only so many times you can dress it up as incompetence, and after 4 years you would think they'd manage to get their arses in gear.

Bloody Nora, Al!!
You are absolutely everywhere on this site these days. I can't go 2 pages without bumping into one of your "world according to Big Al" posts.
I have decided you are Brazilian Gus, and I claim my free extravagant Rio carnival bikini costume!! (For a friend to wear, of course).
I guess this is one of those ad hominem thingymebobbies.

This may or may not be true.

I just feel that some fans need to shout at the system to rile themselves up that its us vs the world.

Given that VAR can’t hear them, how do they influence decisions?
No sorry, I should be clear. I mean for example, neville or carragher highlight something during the game it becomes news. If it relates to VAR or becomes news.

(I was more talking about their influence on the rules of the game from being pundits rather than just VAR. )

But I don't think they sit there watching the game listening to commentary, that's ridiculous.

I do think that the latest debacle with VAR and the profile of it being raised is down to Shearers club being impacted by it and Match of the Day running with the story.

That’s human nature. The only way that could be stopped is by having totally autonomous refereeing.

It’ll only be a matter of time before it “fails” once and undermined for eternity on here.
It looks a major step forward because the "when the ball was played issue" is one of the biggest weaknesses of the current system. Let's hope communications to fans improve at the same time.

Not at all.
Just a cheeky observation.
Anyway, I can't go on debating an issue which, at present, is unprovable. I have my opinion, and you have yours.
Let's just both agree that the truth lies somewhere in between.

No problem. Opinions make the world go round.

VAR could be utterly perfect and some would still find “corruption”.
