Very Proud of Joleon Lescott

Am really pleased for JL.

Think Moyes set his career back about 9 months with all the shit he threw at him.

There's still this perception amongst some City fans, but I didnt agree then and I don't now. The bloke next to me was on his back for a whole season.

He made a couple of errors in his first half dozen games but you could see his ability even then. By October of his first season he was at his best, I think.

Started shakily, then settled and looked like the player he was at Everton, then got a bad knee injury didn't he and didn't get much of a sniff for 12 months. But for the last 18 months he's been immense and formed the best CD pairing in the league and one of the best in Europe. Now it looks like he's really stepped up to international level too and it's great to see.

Everyone goes on about the £24m, but as a club we've managed to put together the best CD pairing in the league over the past 2 years for a combined cost of £30m, which ain't bad considering how much we were considering chucking at Chelsea for Terry.

Was anybody else as proud of Joleon Lescott last night as I was?

When he joined the club it was the very beginning of "the project". He was treated like shit by Moyes and by fans of Everton. He was widely renounced in the media as moving clubs for "non-football" reasons. I remember him being forced to play for them in a friendly and getting abuse fromt he crowd. Yet still he kept his mouth shut and joined us.

He got unfair stick during in first half season from a section of our crowd, too. He made one or two errors as he settled in but he nearly became a whipping boy, completely unjustly.

He's had periods where Kolo has been, again unjustly in my opinion, preferred to him at centre half. He missed out on the last world cup because of this.

But you never see him moaning or causing trouble. He's been rock-solid consistent for the last two seasons and totally deserved being an automatic selection. The goals he was obviously capable of started to come, with a knack of being in important, tight games.

He comes across as a down-to-earth, professional team-player and a nice guy. We lose balance and strength when he's not playing. He's part of the fabric of MCFC now, even though he'll have to fight to retain his place next season if we sign a world-class centre half, as I suspect. He's winning medals, getting lots of England caps and is a household name now.

I was really proud of him when he scored that goal last night. Couldn't have happened to a nicer or more deserving guy.

Hear Hear!!

Totally agree with you DD, I found myself wandering around the house singing "Joleon Lescott he's top of the league".............. I know, I know, the kids have sent for the men in white coats don't worry!!

Seriously though, JL got a rough ride from some at first but he has settled down, plays really well, is easy to talk to and he really does seem to love Manchester City.

I'm a big fan of JL.

He's McCartney to Kompany's Lennon.

A lot of people can't get over the transfer fee, which is quite sad. Even more so now that he's fully justified every penny we spent on him.

The best thing is that he seems to be getting better and better.

He's brilliant, really has come good for us and I for one am glad he's getting his chance in the national team, more than deserved for the lad.

Transfer fees are irrelevant with players like Lescott. £24million, for potentially 5 years at the peak of his career is nothing compared to £32million for a season of Robinho, yet people don't get hung up on that.

If Andy Carroll goes on to have 10 years at Liverpool scoring 15 goals a season, will £35million really have been bad business?

I'm so glad we have Lescott and I was proud of him too last night, had a great game and scored a vital goal, proved a lot of his doubters wrong. The only thing is, you can be sure that if he makes one mistake the entire country will make him a scapegoat.

As someone else intimated earlier, the winning of the PremierLeague must feel like tremendous vindication of their moves for Joleon, Samir, Gaz and Jimbo who all got varying degrees of grief/bile at the time of their respective transfers. Delighted for all of them.

Loved how Paddy put the rest of the panel straight especially that squeaky carragher. So lets have a think carragher, there is a team in the prem who conceded the least goals with 3 English players in the back 5 but lets not pick them, grow some balls dick

PS Jol was great but then he always is

Can anyone please tell me what was said, exactly?

Thank you.
