Haha, I know what you're getting out but don't you think you're overstating the issue slightly?
Not at all. That is the very essence of the press' hostility/agenda/derision [delete as appropriate] to our club.

Yeah I know but the whole "human history" thing slightly overstates some negative stories from the press.

No-one has ever accused me of understating things ;-)

All I am seeking to do is to state that the situation we find ourselves in is not unusual. It is, in fact, a perfectly natural place to find ourselves due to the threat we pose(d) to the status quo.

The key thing is how we deal with it. Winning a few titles might help :-)

I meant to make this point earlier but got distracted by a phone call.

I think there is a difference between the way the owners perceive negative publicity and the way we as fans see negative publicity.

For us, we feel it keenly when our club is criticised. It is like someone having a go at a member of the family. By extension, it is us that they are slagging off when they slag off city. It's tribal. I suspect that the owners however are a bit more impervious to this than us. I wonder if their view is that handled correctly, the media will come on side given enough time.

I can imagine that they do not want some of the more negative associations - the coin throwing on Sunday being the sort of publicity I cannot imagine they want to associate themselves with - but by and large I just don't think they are anywhere near as affected by the 'Mancini is clueless, axe him now' as we are.

So it angers me when Merson says 'Mancini is toast if City lose on Sunday' (BTW how did that one pan out, again? Top work, Merse) but I can't see that it blows the project far off course. I suppose the hard part of Vicky's job is balancing the long term that the owners look at and the short term we look more at.

Look at the latest piece of crap about Mancini blaming Hart for the derby reverse!

I'd say this is one of Kloss's issues with fan understanding. The truth is it's obvious that that story did happen, but because it says something fans don't like, many jump on the "The media are all liars" bandwagon, and she carries the can.

It would be very interesting to get Vicky's thoughts on how that story ended up in the press, and what if anything the club are doing to plug these leaks.
It isn't a new thing, it's been happening for decades.

Fully Agree!

When it comes to journalists I take everything they say with a pinch of salt and that includes both negative and positive stories.

The majority of journalists work under the agenda of what "sells." There is a market there for both negative and positive stories about us, and every clubs for that matter, so they change their opinion to garner more clicks for the website.

I exclude Utd from this as I never see anything negative about them.

There is undoubtedly an 'agenda' against City, and the agenda is self-interest. This is why Atkinson bottled Sunday, but why he gave them seven minutes to find a winner at the swamp. It is why journalists kow-tow to the piss-can and slate us. It is why talk sport hold 'has mancini lost the plot' phone-ins. It is why Barry gets charged by the FA for a gobful of abuse and shrek doesn't. It isn't a global conspiracy to stop City succeeding for the sake of it, it is about knowing which side your bread is buttered. Being in United's good books is a benefit because the pisscan is so powerful and has so much influence. It won't last forever. Nor will he.

It isn't a new thing, it's been happening for decades.

As you say, player leaks are one of the biggest sources of football headlines. I doubt the club are doing anything: they can't hold some big inquest without risking alienating everyone. The journo will never reveal his sources so there's basically no way of finding out. The players who do know the source (if there are any beyond the leaker) aren't going to get their mate in bother.

So I'm sure that the club's top brass will just roll their eyes and carry on.

If there's a period of sustained leaking which seems to be coming from the same place they might try to warn a few people to calm down, but there isn't a lot they can do in all honesty. Players talk to family, friends, agents, players at other clubs etc.

The problem is all the 'a source close to the club' etc. Now sometimes I accept that the club actually wants a story in the press but quite often they don't. It may help if everyone was singing from the same hymn sheet and not doing things for personal gain at the expense of the club. Think the new appointments may help stem the flow somewhat but we could do without headlines such as 'dressing room bust ups' etc. Get any group of 25 men to work together and guaranteed there will be arguments so a bust up in a football team isn't ground breaking

Think VK is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. A male big hitter may help in a mans world but, I doubt it would make any long term difference.

Here's an example of what VK has to work with. Was speaking to a reporter who is from a rag top ( discretion required) and the comment was about getting on well with the 'girls' in the PR dept at city and then, the following day the paper wrote a load of drivel about city. This made my blood boil because it gave the impression that because we are forward thinking with our 'girls' in football we are an easier target ! This is Probably not the case but, that's how it came across to me...

Just goes to show that football is a mans world and it'll take VK many years to get her feet under the football table and gain the respect if the matcho male sports media...

I suppose all the club can do is strategically have a few positive storys doing the rounds in the following days. See the Yaya story today, or the hospital visit or Hayden's big day.
