I suppose all the club can do is strategically have a few positive storys doing the rounds in the following days. See the Yaya story today, or the hospital visit or Hayden's big day.

Exactly, Scareye. They will leak their own stories for PR reasons - or even political ones - as well.

No-one has ever accused me of understating things ;-)

All I am seeking to do is to state that the situation we find ourselves in is not unusual. It is, in fact, a perfectly natural place to find ourselves due to the threat we pose(d) to the status quo.

The key thing is how we deal with it. Winning a few titles might help :-)

Fully Agree!

When it comes to journalists I take everything they say with a pinch of salt and that includes both negative and positive stories.

The majority of journalists work under the agenda of what "sells." There is a market there for both negative and positive stories about us, and every clubs for that matter, so they change their opinion to garner more clicks for the website.

I exclude Utd from this as I never see anything negative about them.

There is undoubtedly an 'agenda' against City, and the agenda is self-interest. This is why Atkinson bottled Sunday, but why he gave them seven minutes to find a winner at the swamp. It is why journalists kow-tow to the piss-can and slate us. It is why talk sport hold 'has mancini lost the plot' phone-ins. It is why Barry gets charged by the FA for a gobful of abuse and shrek doesn't. It isn't a global conspiracy to stop City succeeding for the sake of it, it is about knowing which side your bread is buttered. Being in United's good books is a benefit because the pisscan is so powerful and has so much influence. It won't last forever. Nor will he.

I disagree. We get bad decisions for us aswell, the third goal against us that was given for offside to name one.

Anyway back on topic, there will be journalists who are more negative than others just as there are those more positive than others - I just think they do so to sell papers and online clicks to the website.

.

Not Atkinson's decision, but even if that's a bad example, there is just far too much evidence of refereeing bias (conscious or unconscious makes no odds) in favour of the rags for it all to be coincidence. How many years was it that they went without a penalty against them at the swamp? How many more minutes do they get added on when they are losing?

Refereeing at the Swamp is a big deal for referees because it it the World Stage, and games involving the rags are the high profile games which require our top referees. Yet how many games at the swamp did FIFA-ranked clattenberg handle last season after he sent off a rag in the 6-1? None. Coincidence? I think not. Behave, refs, or you won't be refereeing here again in a hurry.

Interestingly, I talked to Vicky Kloss recently and she expressed interest in an interview to be put on the blog here, to put her case across as to how City handle the media. She's fully aware of the blame she gets for some of the reporting we get, and there's a lot she could tell fans to clarify their thinking, and move them away from the "ban this prick" reactionary stuff we get all the time. However she appears to have gone cold on the idea, presumably in case anything in the interview is picked up and twisted by the very media we are discussing.
Having spoken to her myself on this very subject, I'd make the point that there's a clear and mandated strategy in place regarding our long-term aims re our media relations.

I don't want us to go back to the Paul Tyrrell era of a bull-in-a-china-shop approach. If any of you want to know what that was like look up the Richard Wrights/Everton Free School story on the Everton forums. Truly shocking behaviour from Tyrrell and as bad as the stuff that got Jen Chang the boot at Liverpool.

Hahaha Just read up on that. What a dick, throwing his weight around like that. Funny that he threatened legal action against a Sports Editor for critical comments and couldn't carry it through, too. Any idea who that was?
It was Heidi Pickup at MCIVTA if it's the same incident I'm thinking of. Someone (not me) had written something very critical so he was threatening legal action. We were playing a West Ham that weekend & I got a phone call from a journalist who was there (I wasn't) who'd heard about this and wanted to speak to Heidi. He said the whole press box were itching to have a go at PT. They did go with the story & once it hit the papers he quietly backed down.

The big picture thing I can kind of see.

The only problem is the general public are sheep and have no idea what's really going on in the world and not just in football e.g. on the way to the CS there was a piece about RAF planes making too much noise early in the morning except a wrong noisier type of plaine was sighted to make it a sexier story. The public just lap it up and just hang on the word of shite such in our papers.

If/when the media do finally turn a bit blue fine and I have my doubts as 'Arabs' seems to be used much too much compared with USA etc. the gain will be instant but how much bad press do our owners want to take?

Didn't want start a new thread so resurrected this one. What the f#ck do our press communication team actually do. All the stories going round this week and whether they are true or not surely it is their job to control damage limitation. Also maybe they have a responsibility to communicate with the fans who also don't have a clue what's going on at their own club. All this silence, don't respond to anything attitude is very noble but doesnt seem to be helping the situation and only adding fuel to the fire. We don't even seem to bang a drum when the club makes positive moves like the academy, investment in local community, etc. This should be continually mentioned and shouted from the rooftops until people listen. Also I don't expect the two spaniards to spout off daily but a bit of communication as to their ideas etc. would be nice, because the way I see people seem to becoming more skeptical as time goes on regarding their position.

Come city surely we need to handle these things better and quicker

Could not agree more - in a week which started off great with baconface retiring it has ended with a dark cloud

Our pet goldfish could do better than this lot

They are stealing a living and are totally toothless and or gutless when managing the lizards

Get a grip, you cretins
you are making a mockery of us and threarening the wellbeing of the club

You are as important a part of the operation as the palying staff...

we need to start piling the pressure onto these useless idiots rather than just ranting on forums

How the hell do we get a message across to the PR dept at City... this cannot go on

Quite honestly we may as well not have a PR Dept

what comes out of ours makes a parish magazine look exciting

as for dealing woth hostile meedia we seem to be like that species of flightless bird in the new World , with no fear of humans ... now extinct

This is not a pop at her but a question to garner some views on whether the Club should be more proactive in countering some of the rubbish that's printed and broadcast about us?

Given all the media sniping at us, and this 'bite your lip' attitude the Club seems to be adopting, is our media/communications department doing enough to counter all the 'misinformation' that involves us? Or, is it about time the Club employed a 'big hitter' in this role to mount a counter-offensive?

Pointless exercise imo. They'll print as many bullshit rumours as they like, we've been a target since 2008, fuck them.

The only time the club should act is when they're claiming something as fact which is clearly wrong.

Totally useless and out of her depth...

She must have known what was brewing yesterday but did nothing to put a lid on it..

Can we not give her a job in the canteen at the new academy ?
