This is not a pop at her but a question to garner some views on whether the Club should be more proactive in countering some of the rubbish that's printed and broadcast about us?

Given all the media sniping at us, and this 'bite your lip' attitude the Club seems to be adopting, is our media/communications department doing enough to counter all the 'misinformation' that involves us? Or, is it about time the Club employed a 'big hitter' in this role to mount a counter-offensive?

This isn't a pop but it is

Unless you have ever had a job handling media relations and I haven't we can hardly criticise her

Also if a journalist has an opinion we played bad in his write up and that we have spent too much money and yadda yadda blah blah it isn't libellous
If he prints that someone at the club is a paedophile without any proof the shit would hit the fan

Not really the case, most of us would have played football to sum extent and have knowledge on it. Most on here wouldn't know the first thing about media work or relations in a top company

The problem is, Vicky can hardly come on here and say 'Custis is a c@nt but I need him on side', so the thought process is probably not explained as clearly as it could be. But as I say, I'm pretty sure that when we turn the other cheek, it is because we have a longer term game plan in mind.

Interestingly, I talked to Vicky Kloss recently and she expressed interest in an interview to be put on the blog here, to put her case across as to how City handle the media. She's fully aware of the blame she gets for some of the reporting we get, and there's a lot she could tell fans to clarify their thinking, and move them away from the "ban this prick" reactionary stuff we get all the time. However she appears to have gone cold on the idea, presumably in case anything in the interview is picked up and twisted by the very media we are discussing.

Could be because like me she looks at it/listens to it, then puts it out of her head as quickly as it entered it instead of dwelling on it and getting her knickers in a twist like so many others seem to do. In other words she sees it for what it is - chip wrapper.

As the PR Manager of a company I worked for explained: "You look at everything, analyse it, work out how best to respond to it. You try to keep your response subtle, you try to stay friendly with your critics, encourage them to speak to you before they put out a damaging article. Very, very, very rarely do you get confrontational with them".

Sounds like a very good idea to me. I have no doubt at all that Vicky watches and listens to all the negative stories that come out whether true or not and doesn't just let them happen.

I am sure though that the idea of being heavy handed in some way would also have negative consequences.I feel confident that plenty is going on that we don't see to take certain journalists to task and set them straight. There again there are also some who just have it in for us and no matter what is said or done they are likely to print worse given any attempt to shut them up.

You don't really need a "big hitter" or a big name, just someone who knows what they're doing. Vicky Kloss does an "OK" job, but it's nothing to write home about. Quite possibly there just aren't enough hours in the day for her - maybe a sidekick should be hired.

Trying to understand how the media works is something that boggles the average mind, but it all boils down to exclusives, back slaps and secret handshakes - as well as contacts and experience.

Having spoken to her myself on this very subject, I'd make the point that there's a clear and mandated strategy in place regarding our long-term aims re our media relations.

I don't want us to go back to the Paul Tyrrell era of a bull-in-a-china-shop approach. If any of you want to know what that was like look up the Richard Wrights/Everton Free School story on the Everton forums. Truly shocking behaviour from Tyrrell and as bad as the stuff that got Jen Chang the boot at Liverpool.
